[Lnc-business] Request for email ballot co-sponsors

Colleagues,
I will respectfully oppose this motion for two basic reasons:
First, we will all be face-to-face in less than two weeks. This can be
placed on the agenda for the meeting coming up. I have always felt that
using e-mail ballots should be for things too important to wait until the
next meeting. But with our next gathering being so close, there is no real
need for urgency in this matter.
Second, and more importantly, this motion describes something that does not
presently exist. I know Mr. Wiener claims that his motion merely codifies
what is already done. What has always been done. When in fact, it has never
been done. We do not hold an "election" to replace LNC members. The board
"appoints" new members when vacancies arise. Yes, we vote on who to appoint
but we do not hold an election.
So, this motion, worded as is, will create an "election" that presently
doesn't take place. A secret election at that.
As I stated in the beginning, I will respectfully oppose this motion.
