[Lnc-business] FW: FW: Another good campaign ad

Hello Scott . . .
Please find below Eileen’s comments concerning the Keen for Kansas ad. Eileen is Keen’s Campaign Manager, and also his wife. The campaign is, unfortunately, a low budget affair. Keen has personally put up $50,000 of his own money, but the campaign has only been able to raise an additional $16,000. Obviously, our (LP in general) inability to raise funds means high quality candidates like Keen will not be excited about running for office as a Libertarian.

Dear Norm,
Thanks VERY much for sharing our video with your friends and then sharing their .02 with us. We appreciate it very much. Norm, we are running this whole campaign on the backs of less than a dozen people. Truth be told it’s Keen, me, our campaign manager and about 3 other people who are carrying 95% of the weight and it is very, very difficult.
The video you shared was produced by someone who volunteered his services. Then one of our people decided he should be paid but I think it was only $300.00, which will end up being a payment-in-kind for the campaign.
We have also recently hired a team for a Google-driven campaign that is putting the K4K banner and logo all over the Internet. I think it was seen by 400,000 people in the first week. And it links to the K4K web site and Facebook page.
We initially hired a marketing firm to develop the logo and design for all the bumper stickers, cards, stationery, T-shirts and yard signs, and they did a good job on all of that. But we started to feel like we were hemorrhaging money. They hired a crew to do a video shoot with Keen and me around our town and then out in the country. But after billing us $18,000 we still didn’t have a completed video so we parted ways. Our money was running out and we didn’t feel like we could afford them.
Recently, I contacted them once again and asked how much they would charge to take the raw video footage they captured and turn it into a video. I commented that I knew it would be awesome and much more professional than the ones our volunteers are producing. (Keen has a YouTube channel with several other videos, too.) Much to my surprise, they wrote back and said that they would charge $1,500 (all-inclusive, flat fee) to produce one 2-3 minute video for YouTube and Facebook, and one 30-second video that could be used for commercials. So we decided to do it.
We are hoping to get in enough money to run some commercials right before the election. Keen’s R and D opponents have millions and have been running ads already. But they are running ads that attack each other. My hope is that it will work in our favor. Perhaps by the time the election rolls around, everyone will be so tired of hearing those two sling mud at each other, they will embrace an alternative.
At any rate, that’s the lowdown.
Best,
Eileen
