I note that Texas has straight ticket voting. That sucks, but it doesn't
affect non-partisan races.
I am not intimating that ALL of the elections below are winnable. In many
cases, you probably have incumbents running for
re-election.
That being said, you can see the extremely small number of votes needed to
win the elections listed below.
I also note that almost all of these districts are outside of Austin. Since
Austin has 77% of the population of Travis County, it is likely that there
are relatively few LP of Travis County members who live in the districts
below. And - you need to find someone who is willing to show up at all of
the meetings of these districts for the next 4 years or so, if they win.
Even with all of those constraints, given the success of the LP of Travis
County in recruiting candidates for the unwinnable races listed above, I bet
they could win some of the elections below if they focused on said
elections.
I also note that there are dozens and dozens of districts in Travis County
in the link that I sent out a few days ago
that are NOT listed below. Some of those positions might be appointed, but
according to the staff member I spoke to, most of them are elected. If
they are elected but not listed below, those are GOLDEN OPPORTUNITIES for
the LP of Travis County to get Libertarians elected to those districts just
by filing for those races.
I admit that it would require a significant amount of Internet research,
telephone calling, and/or in-person visits to find out which districts hold
elections, when those elections are, and how to file for those elections. I
am very lucky that all elections for public office in my county are listed
on my county's Registrar of Voters web site.
Again - I am not singling out the LP of Travis County as not wanting to
concentrate on winnable elections. There has been a lot of pressure from the
leadership of the National LP and State LP's over the past 40 years to run
as many candidates as possible
in unwinnable, non-ballot-access-retaining elections. I can't blame local
Libertarian leaders for following that lead.

This is NOT a complete list of the results of these elections. These are
just the non-partisan elections that, IMO, are winnable with a reasonable
amount of work by a Libertarian. By reasonable I mean it would involve less
than 40 total hours of campaigning.
It depends on how you count them, but I count approximately 32 different
"elections" below that are "winnable." Note that most of these elections
are not held in November of even-numbered years, so don't blame the Travis
County LP for not having candidates for the races listed below in their list
of candidates at the beginning of this e-mail.
I apologize if the formatting of the stuff below looks bad. I had to copy
multiple PDF files and extensively edit them, so it is likely that the
reflector software and/or your own e-mail software will mess around with my
formatting.
