I took your advice, Dan.
It only took a few seconds a day to extract the messages from my spam, but
for the 3-4 of minutes of invested time to set up the filter, the time
investment will still pay for itself before long.
Anybody else who uses Gmail and wants to tell it not to send AOL/Yahoo
emails from Tim, Sam, Ron, Rob, and Bill (though Bill has recently switched
to Gmail) into your spam, here are the specific directions for how to do it:
1) Gather a list of the email addresses that you want to automatically
re-route from spam to inbox.
2) In Gmail, click the icon that looks like a gear, in the upper-right
portion of the screen.
3) From that drop-down menu, select "Settings".
4) In the settings screen, find the menu links at the top of the page and
click the "Filters" one.
For each email address you want to re-route:
5) In the bottom-center of that filters screen, click the "Create new
filter" link.
6) There are two steps to the process, with the first being defining which
messages you want to catch, and the second being defining how to handle
those messages. When prompted with the first form, it wants you to define
the search parameters for which messages to catch. In the "From" field,
enter one of the email addresses that typically lands in your spam, and
enter nothing in the other fields. Then click the "Create filter with this
search" link.
7) You'll get the second form, which asks how you want to handle the email
messages from that person. Check the "Never send it to spam" box. Then
click the "Create filter" button to finish the process.
You MIGHT be able to list multiple email addresses in the "From" box in the
first step of creating the filter and handle them all with the same rule,
but I didn't experiment with that to see if it worked. I just created a
separate filter for each email address.
