[Lnc-business] Ballot Status in Washington, DC

It is a common problem. We, and I suspect most other minor parties, tend to
run our best candidates in races in which they have no chance of winning.
This is a difficult problem to address as I believe it to be more an issue
of the candidate rather than the party. Let's face it, if Fred comes to me
in an upbeat mood and says he wants to run for governor, chances are pretty
good he will strenuously resist suggestions that he run for town dogcatcher
instead. This is just ordinary, natural, human nature; not likely to be
changed by political strategy arguments.
If you've got a good solution for this, please lay it on me.

PS> It has been part of my strategy in Colorado for many years to use the
ballot as a Libertarian Masthead. That is, have not less than five
Libertarians on every ballot in the state; especially since these positions
are usually statewide and are the first on the ballot. This objective is
helpful, but having candidates for the lowest of offices is probably better
strategy in the long run.

It's unfortunate that Mr. Majors did not do what he mentions he probably
should have done, but hindsight is 20/20.
However - this does underscore a general principle that it is much easier to
maintain ballot status with the down-ballot races,
as opposed to high profile races like Governor and Mayor.
