I would co-sponsor a motion to do this.
I can’t imagine a use for this in the near future and the probability of its ever being valuable is not high. However:
1. in the topsy /turvy world of IT which reinvents itself every couple of years, ownership of this domain could become a valuable asset
2. I would not want anyone else to own this domain and use it to our disadvantage
3. It would be nice if at some time in the future all affiliates (state, county, and local) would have a definitive URL based on this: e.g. co.libertarian; adams.co.libertarian, etc.
4. Wouldn’t e-mail addresses such as chair at adams.co.libertarian be a definitive plus for convenience and organizational strength some time down the road of time?

Subject: [Lnc-business] .libertarian domain name
A couple members on the LPIN Leadership page just brought this to my attention:
Hey, the internet top level domain libertarian is available. This costs $1,000 and would allow us to have that in lieu of .com or .org etc... we would be able to seel the rights to use it for someguy(dot)libertarian etc... The democrats and republicans have .democrat and . republican I worry if we don't then someone else will and we will have no control over it.
I suggest that we jump on this as soon as possible. Either out of the IT Committee budget or some other account.
Sam
