[Lnc-business] Various items for your consideration

I personally think if Libertarians can run as Republicans, why not counter with Libertarians running as Democrats. For instance, I would love Gary Johnson to oppose Hillary in the Democratic Party presidential primaries. Hillary is bound to win the endorsement anyway, but that would give Gary, or any other Libertarian candidate, national recognition when he/she later ran as the Libertarian candidate. And if Gary should win the Democratic nomination and go on to become president, well, I would sooner see a Democratic/Libertarian president then a Hillary president any day. Roland Riemers of ND

I agree, we cannot fight reality. We can change it, of course, but we can only do that by first recognizing what it is. If student activists are 'standing with Rand,' what do we do to make the most of this circumstance? I certainly agree that we ask for their support down-ticket.
Also open is the question of what they will do if Rand is not nominated - will they support the nominee, whom Rand will almost certainly endorse, or look elsewhere? Of course, we want them to look elsewhere -as in us - in that circumstance. Similarly, we want them to look elsewhere if he is nominated and loses, or if he wins and doesn't behave as they would like, or if he wins and is term-limited out of office, etc. So how do we make ourselves the clear and obvious "elsewhere" to look - and good enough to cause them to break out of a comfortable position - in the meantime? It would seem to me that the preference they are expressing is for something that has a 'fighting chance of being elected.' I would say we do that by building a record of successful campaigns. Student activists, when any of the above take place, could receive a letter (not asking for money) talking about our recent electoral successes, stripped of comparative analysis, and not showing vote totals for losing races. This might be convincing, to at least some of them, to vote Libertarian at least part of the time.
It would be interesting to see what positions of Rand they particularly favor, and which they live with.

The question is - is the LNC willing to accept and workwith the observation below, or are we going to get on our high horse and continue tomaintain that any libertarian who supports Rand Paul is a statist? This is where having Libertarians running for local,non-partisan elections can come in handy. We can ask libertarians who support Rand Paul and willvote for him instead of any Libertarian presidential candidate in their primary,to vote for Rand Paul for President, but to support LP members X, Y, and Zrunning for Town Council – even if Town Council is non-partisan. Scott Lieberman “in my interactions with self-identified libertarian studentactivists in the U.S.,I have seen that many intend to work on behalf of Sen. Paul's campaign. Most of these students indicated that while they agree to a much greater extent with Libertarian Party positions, they believe itis better to work for a candidate who has what they consider to be a fightingchance of being elected.
