Alicia,  I have been pondering over what we Libertarians can do to make us a more viable party.  One idea that recently popped into my head and I would like to pass by you as maybe because maybe I am just re-inventing the wheel..
A key issue in our party is finances, for both the national and the state organizations.  In ND we really have no way to encourage or even collect donations to the party.  The national party is also always hurting for money.   I would suggest this.
The national party set up a easy way for any supporter to make monthly payments to one master fund either by credit card or check or whatever.  I believe we already have a sustainer fund, but this would be much more then that.
The fund will be split into numerous smaller funds.  Each state will have a fund.  National operations, buildings, etc would all have funds.  Candidates or whatever will have a fund.  You name it, we could have a fund for it.
A the time the donor is setting up the monthly donation,  the donor will direct where his money will go.  So,  he might want 50% to go to national,  10% to a building fund,  20% for his state, and 20%  for the chairman's retirement fund, etc., etc.   As the funds come in, they will automatically be split as directed by the donor and sent to the individual banking accounts once a month.
Donations could be obtained by email, web-site, mail-in card, paypal,  etc., etc.  The idea is to make it as easy and convenient as possible for donors to contribute.  Local parties could pass out the cards at local meetings and encourage donations,  as could candidates.    A small montly donation of even $5 a month would be affordable and still bring in significant money.
Anyway,  we need to do something about finances, and this I think would work much better then the current system or lack there of.
