[Lnc-business] LNC Meeting 07/18-19

After discussing the issue with the chair and Robert, we all decided we
would try meeting Sunday in the basement of LPHQ. It will be a bit tight,
but it will work. Based on the experience, you may or may not decide to try
it again some day. For example, if you find the space just too cramped and
too small, you might not want to do it again. On the other hand, you may
find that for the price, it works fine and might work again in the future.

Subject: [Lnc-business] Completing agenda for the upcoming meeting

All,

The major items other than reports that I anticipate for the agenda are:

- Final logo selection

- Selection of a new General Counsel

Due to our not having the meeting room at the hotel on Sunday, I have been
asked to try to complete the business by the end of the Saturday session.
Suggestions include starting at 8:30 am, having a working lunch, and
adjourning as late as 6:30 pm. I'm open to any or all of these ideas, but
will defer to the body if anyone has strong objections.

Mr. Kraus is very good at finding high quality places for the LNC to meet
that won't break our budget.

So, I was quite surprised when it was announced that he was not able to find
an affordable hotel on the Virginia side of the Potomac River that had a
suitable meeting room for a 2 day meeting.

In any case - you can see that our Executive Director wrote to us 2.5 months
ago and told us this was an excellent chance to try out the basement of LPHQ
for an LNC Session. I think that is an excellent suggestion, and I am
surprised that the Chair is now suggesting that we attempt to avoid trying
out the basement of LPHQ as an LNC Session venue.

I have no problem with one-day LNC Sessions if the board, as whole, decides
to do so. However, in the past such decisions were made well in advance of
the one-day LNC Session. This time, the Chair is only giving us 10 days to
figure out how to cram

11 hours of work into less than 8 hours of meeting time. Plus - this
deprives the LNC the chance to discuss something on Saturday, and then
decide to postpone it to Sunday to permit us to discuss the matter
informally with fellow LNC members on Saturday night, so that we can make a
more informed decision on Sunday.

At this late date, I don't think it is a good idea to deprive our membership
of good governance by trying to cram 1.6 days of business into a marathon
one-day session. Remember - if we have a "working lunch", that means being
in the meeting room for 10 continuous hours with only 2 or 3 15 minute
breaks.
