[Lnc-business] optional social activities for LNC in Alexandria

The Duke Room has a stated capacity of 15 in conference set-up (total room dimensions are 20x25x12 feet).

I know this is a long-shot, but if the hotel has smaller tables (borrowed from the restaurant?), maybe that would add 5 or 7 to the capacity of the Duke Room. That might give us enough room to get up and go to the bathroom without asking 5 people to stand up to make enough room to get by them.

We are in the “Conference Center” on Sat (same room as last time) and the “Duke” room (if needed) on Sun.

For those that are driving please feel free to park in spots # 1430-1444 at Round House Sq (where HQ is located). Please avoid 1422-24 and the unmarked spots by the day care as we do not have permission to use those.

Live Free!

So which level of peerage do we have on Saturday, and which level on Sunday?

I'd like to welcome members of the Libertarian National Committee to Alexandria this weekend.

In addition to the official agenda, here are a few suggestions for things to do before and after the official meeting.

For those of you arriving early enough on Friday, after checking into the hotel, you are welcome to come by the LPHQ to hang out, discuss, brainstorm, gossip, or whatever. I'll be here as well as other staff members probably until at least 7:30 PM. (See suggestion below about bringing beer or wine.)

Below are a few places to consider eating that are very close by to your hotel and LP headquarters, and of course are in walking distance.

Table Talk Restaurant (just across the street from the hotel and to the left) is a greasy spoon-style restaurant with a great breakfast, and sandwiches and things for lunch. It closes a 3PM.
La Porta's (next door to the hotel) is more upscale and open for lunch and dinner. At 3 PM, happy hour starts, with half-priced bar menu items like hamburgers.
Whole Foods and Subway Sandwiches is just down the street from the hotel.

Regardless of where you might eat Friday, I suggest walking over to Whole Foods, picking up a 6-pack of beer or a bottle of wine, and then bringing it over the LP Headquarters (at 1444 Duke St.) to share with staff and any other guests that are here Friday afternoon and early evening. Left overs can be contributed to the Saturday night building headquarters anniversary celebration.

Tim Hagan has been working to find people to go to a Friday night baseball game with him. Contact Tim if you are interested in that.

Saturday will be a full day of the LNC meeting, followed by the LPHQ <http://www.lp.org/blogs/staff/lphq-anniversary-party-on-july-18-see-video-from-last-year> anniversary celebration.

On Sunday, depending on when things wrap up, if somebody has suggestions on group activities, feel free to propose them.

Last year, several of us wandered over to the historic King Street, just a few blocks away, from the office, which is loaded with bars, restaurants, and shops.

On Sunday, if there's enough interest, you might get a group together to visit the DC monuments, some of the Smithsonian museums in DC, or Mount Vernon which is just about 12 miles away (maybe a $30 cab ride split between whoever goes). While I enjoyed visiting Mount Vernon recently, it was quite hot the day I visited, so be prepared to check the weather and to be exposed to significant heat and sun.

We'll see you soon!

P.S. Rumor has it we secured meeting space at the hotel for Sunday. It's a smaller room than the Saturday room, but bigger than the LPHQ basement.
P.P.S. Rumor has it the proposed new "Torch Eagle" logo is leading in the survey responses received so far. Tell your friends to FedEx or fax their response forms and contributions IMMEDIATELY if they still want to affect the results before the LNC meets.
