Bill,
Do you have the contact information on SD? I could not find it on the SD Lib. web site.
In regards to SD petitions. I chatted with Charles Tuttle, our local petitioner, and he plus 2 other guys can get it done for $15,000 total (which includes hotel, etc.). He is checking on the recent changes to SD law to make sure we are all on the same wave length.
These petitions would be carefully screened so we can be sure we turn in nothing but high quality petitions. So, do not need 10,000 signatures. (7,000 + 3,000 padding). I think just several hundred extra is all for padding, but we will make sure we can add more later if needed. If not, then naturally more padding would be needed. We can look at this more closely later.
I would suggest we offer $14,000 for a minimum of 7,000 VALID signatures (which puts the burden on the petitioners to insure there are enough - if they wish to be paid). In addition, that we give the petitioners membership applications and for every new member that gets signed up during the petitioning period, they get an additional $5 from national out of the new $25 dues they pay. So if they sign up 500 new members they get an additional $2,500 and national earns $10,000 and SD gets lots of new members to grow with. But even 100 new members would be nice for SD.
As mentioned last weekend, if for some reason should we ran a few short after turn-in, and Tuttle can not make them up, that I would be willing to travel to SD to help them collect the shortages. But I do not expect that to be a problem.
What do you think???
