[Lnc-business] heads-up

I have only read the Report from the Audit Committee, and it took me over an
hour to read the 2 parts. I have yet to read the other 2 documents.
I just want to reiterate the Secretary's request below: you will not have
enough time in Orlando to read these documents.
To properly discharge our fiduciary duty to our members, it is important
that you read all 4 of these files before you get on the plane to go to
Orlando.
At worst, print them out and read them on the plane. If you wait until
after dinner on Friday, you will most likely not have enough time and energy
to read them before the LNC Session comes to order on Saturday morning.

Colleagues,
I am in receipt of the Audit Committee report and will be forwarding those
documents on after I send this message.
I would like to say something first, based on closely watching others in LNC
meetings for two terms and serving on it myself for two terms.
These are documents that you need to read in advance of the meeting.
Many committee reports are a couple of pages, and if we're in a rush the
week before the meeting, we might just be able to skim them quickly during
the meeting and get up to speed on what we need to know.
I see this report is longer than that, and it contains a lot of supporting
details. The Audit Committee will not have the luxury of time to explain
these details to us from the ground up during the meeting.
If board members don't read these materials in advance, our meeting will
likely get bogged down with trying to educate the board about the underlying
facts, when we should instead be discussing implications of the facts we've
been given already and asking our questions not already addressed in the
report.
If we don't read this in advance, we'll certainly waste some time during the
meeeting, and we may ultimately make uninformed decisions, which would be a
shame.
