[Lnc-business] February LNC Meeting

Mr. Ludlow:

I feel your pain.

Helms-Briscoe is currently getting bids for our February LNC Session from
most or all of the hotels that are on the short list for our 2018 Convention
site.

I think it was the ED who wrote us that it is difficult to get bids from
hotels this week due to most normal people

having this week off (Note - I have to work this week, so I am clearly not
normal).

I suggest we give staff until Thursday, January 7, 2016 to collect the bids
that Helms-Briscoe is able to solicit. If we have no decent bids on that
date, then I suggest that we do what Mr. Ludlow suggests below.

LNC Members:

I really dislike being that guy who sends multiple emails to a list-serve
when most others are remaining silent. I also recognize that I sometimes
vocalize a strong tone, but I'm trying really hard to patiently understand
what we're doing here. I was very present in Orlando and am pretty sure I
have not missed a single word of email.

That being said, this specific email thread was started over two weeks ago.
It was started by Mr. Goldstein as a way to expedite what he (and no doubt
several others) felt should have already been locked down. I realize the
holidays have been upon us, but are we really to believe that each of us
cannot send 30-second-long emails from the convenience of his or her front
pocket?

We need to select a location; we need to book hotels; we need to book
flights.

What specifically is needed from this board in order to have a decision made
THIS week? I would be happy to setup a Doodle Poll (as I believe Mr. Katz
suggested at the Orlando meeting). I would be happy if staff simply asked
the body - again - what their choice of the four locations was via email.
Either way, if this is to be democratic (which I don't feel it needs to be)
then I would advocate giving members until December 30th, 11:59pm EST to
submit their response and not a second later.

I really don't care how it's done, but surely we are capable of
accomplishing this very simple and discrete task.

If this has already been done and I've just missed the conversation entirely
then please paint me a fool and accept my most sincere apologies. I'll buy
every one of you a beer for my mistake. But if not, can we please lock this
down immediately?

Thank you very much.

I'm fine with any of those locations, including Seattle although I will be
there next month for a memorial.

The LNC would not be petitioning. I'm expecting to have enough signature
before then. Some LNC might help with a publicity event on Friday or Monday
if the signatures are ready to turn in. Other press opportunities might
exist.

I'm fine meeting anywhere.

My usual first place choices for every meeting are New Orleans (close to my
parents & great food), Las Vegas (fun), or DC (I don't have to pack). I was
very pleasantly surprised with how nice Phoenix was last March. Loved the
hotel. So, if you are worried that I'm pushing too hard for OKC, it's for
the great prices and new LP activity there, not for me personally, although
I have many relatives in Oklahoma.

I was previously pushing to combine it with training in San Francisco or
L.A., but could not get consensus. I'd be fine with Washington state,
personally, but it seems like a long long way to fly for most people.

Regarding OKC, is there an actual expectation that the LNC would be out
petitioning instead of meeting? Did I just misunderstand that or possibly
read into it incorrectly?

I would advocate Phoenix over New Orleans.

* PHX is easy and generally cheap to fly into
* Phoenix itself is easy to get around
* Car rentals tend to be super cheap in Phoenix
* The city is specifically setup for business conferences
* We have two potential sites to visit there

* While it's not entirely west coast, it does address that imbalance to
other members (a little at least)

Robert found a couple of properties in OKC with rooms at around the
$80/night level, free breakfast, and the meeting space is free or just a
couple hundred dollars or so. That would be the least expensive LNC meeting
in a long time. We could sign a deal right away if you'd like.

Helms Briscoe says they don't expect proposals the week of Christmas. So, we
can wait to see what comes up with Helms Briscoe later, and compare those to
the OKC options, or go with OKC now.

Since we don't yet have a plan for a February meeting location, I just
emailed our 2018 site search agent asking her to find out if any of the
short-list options might have available space for the Feb 20 weekend.
(Cities are: Atlantic City, NJ; New Orleans, LA; Phoenix, AZ; Bellevue, WA)
I indicated that time is of the essence, so they should send us their offers
quickly if they're available.

Sam, at least as of a week ago I don't think staff has been asked to

research any locations. Copying Robert to verify. I proposed San Francisco

recently but got zero interest from the LNC.

I found a great place in Oklahoma City for $79 per night if you all are

interested. Best Western Saddleback. Nice meeting space and free breakfast.

Southwest Airlines doesn't charge change fees if you need to change your

flight. I flew into the ice storm Saturday after Thanksgiving and the people

there didn't seem to panic even with downed power lines and trees

everywhere. Was nice to be able to change flight just in case though
