[Lnc-business] Fwd: Gary Johnson announces; Newsweek covers McAfee; Texas & NC field candidates; and more

Colleagues,

I do not remember the answer to Starchild's first question (I am far from
an expert on branding matters and so don't enter into those discussions
often, which causes me to forget the details).

Please see also Starchild's comments about the training session in
California, which will likely be more helpful to staff than to the LNC.

Joshua,

When did "Minimum Government, Maximum Freedom" become "Shrinking Big
Government, Advancing Liberty"? It's possible I missed it, but I don't
recall any LNC discussion about replacing the more radical phrase preferred
in a poll of the membership as part of the switchover to the new logo. If
you don't know, I encourage you to raise the issue on the LNC list. Or
better, simply copy the LNC list on your reply to me, so non-LNC-member
subscribers can see the correspondence in the interests of transparency, as
should be standard practice.

Hope all's well with you and you're having a good 2016 so far!

Love & Liberty,
                                ((( starchild )))

P.S. - Did you get my message about the training in San Francisco mentioned
in the newsletter below? When I saw Wes post something about wanting to do
a training event (or maybe LNC meeting) here, I sent a message to Wes and
LNC members volunteering to help by finding a cheap or free local location
for the event(s), and heard nothing but crickets in response. As far as I
know there's been no direct communication from national to our local
chapter about this event.

101 potential candidates file in Texas[image: LP of Texas logo with Texas

101 potential candidates have filed to run for office as Libertarians in
Texas for the 2016 elections.

The filing deadline was on December 14. Texas has the second-earliest
filing deadline for non-establishment parties, behind Arkansas, whose 2016
candidates had to file in early November.

The Texas LP has run over 100 candidates for office in the last
several general elections.

“The Libertarian Party of Texas is proud to announce 101 candidates filed
to run for office as Libertarian in the 2016 election cycle," said Kurt
Hildebrand, the LPTX chair.

Maine official knocks Libertarians off ballot; LP fights backA new law
passed by the Maine Legislature in 2013 gave Libertarians a way to qualify
as an officially recognized political party in the state, by enrolling
5,000 Maine voters in the Party. It set a very early deadline of December 1
of the year before elections. This requires that all enrollments be secured
during an odd-numbered year, when the public’s attention to and enthusiasm
for the political process is historically lowest.

Courts have struck down early deadlines for ballot qualification as
unconstitutional in at least ten other states. Their deadlines were not as
early as Maine’s.
