Dear Members,
Our 2016 National Convention is right around the corner. The members of the Convention Oversight Committee are excited for the possibilities that are available to us as a Party and we are working to make the the most of this historic opportunity. On top of the excitement that the Presidential nomination brings, we have worked hard to create a diverse and interesting line up of speakers both on the main floor, during the meals, and in the many breakout seminars and panels throughout the convention. It is our hope that you leave this convention better trained and motivated to help take our Party to the next level.
It has been my honor to serve on the LNC as the Region 7 Alternate, as well as on the Convention Oversight Committee as the Speaker Coordinator. What the future holds is always uncertain but I hope to remain on the convention committee for the next 2 years leading up to the convention in New Orleans where I reside. That convention will be during 2018 which is the Tri-Centennial for the city which adds further excitement to our event.
This brings me to my final task in preparation for this convention.
We are looking for candidates who will be in attendance at the National Convention to create 3 minute speeches intended to deliver on the main stage. They should video record it and send it to Daniel.Hayes at LP.Org. Videos are strongly preferred but we will also accept audio recordings of speeches. From a delivery standpoint it will likely be easiest to send a link to a video uploaded to You Tube or some other site. We will begin evaluating them in the order received. At points during tallying of votes on the main floor, the candidates will be asked to deliver their speeches in the order selected. In general, the order of speeches will be selected randomly prior to the start of business.
It is likely not every candidate will get to speak as slots are limited to those times when votes are being tallied which varies. These are not definite speaking slots though we do have a few candidates already selected delivering set speeches because of the importance of their race, request of the Chairman, etc. Candidates selected for this pool will need to be ready when called on to speak with little notice. We realize that this Call is somewhat of the last second, but it was intentional as part of the evaluation process. All candidates should be able to deliver a pertinent, rousing speech at a moment's notice. Also, once it's done the candidates have at least the beginnings of some good material for their campaigns to use.
Information that should be included in their email:
Name of the candidate
State of residence
Office they seek
Acknowledgement that they will not seek any nomination or run for any office voted on by the Delegates subsequent to their speaking on the main stage.
A transcript of their speech
The video or link to their video
A short bio
A head shot
Phone number for call/text notification
LSLA Chairman and Alabama State Chair, Leigh Lachine has agreed to forward this to the State Chair's list for us. Members and State Chairs, please forward this to those candidates you wish to be considered.
If anyone has any questions or concerns regarding this process or about any aspect of the convention they may call or text me at 504-258-6176.
