Bill,
Bob Johnston seems to think that FEC guidelines restrict us to only giving $5000 to a state candidate committee, but those FEC guides get all wonky. I was following his lead but I think you are right when you look at the definitions from the FEC guide. See the definitions from the FEC Guide below? They refer to FEDERAL candidates. This pain in the neck confusion is why we do this.
Candidate-An individual seeking nomination for election, or election to federal office becomes a candidate when he or she (or agents acting on his or her behalf) raise contributions that exceed $5,000 or make expenditures that exceed $5,000. 100.3.
Authorized Committee- Any political committee, including the principal campaign committee, authorized in writing by a federal candidate to receive contributions and make expenditures on his or her behalf. 100.5(f)(1). Authorized committees are often called “candidate committees” or “campaign committees.”
So maybe we should ditch the first two motions floating out there and just make one motion for $20,000 directly to Mark Miller's campaign.
I REALLY REALLY didnt want it to end up like this..but I blame the government entirely.
I am certain that donations according to Texas law are unlimited to Non-Judicial Statewide candidates.

It is my understanding that the LNC is not legally restricted by either the FEC or the State of Texas as to the amount that it could legally give to the Mark Miller Campaign. If Lauren Daugherty could confirm the Texas part, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Bill Redpath

I am seeking 3 cosponsors for the motion below. We can handle other amounts later in another motion. This will prevent this part of the assistance from being killed if there is a poison pill in donating more money and prevent us from going back to the drawing board on the whole thing.
I move an email ballot to have the LNC contribute $5,000 directly to the Mark Miller for Railroad Commissioner campaign in Texas with the proviso that it is legal for the LNC to do this.
