What Tim just said is what I think a few of us figured out the other day after beating around the bush a bit(or maybe stumbling through it). The FEC Guides can't be read piecemeal. You better have the definitions of everything from the guide next to you or you may get confused. The FEC is ONLY concerned with Federal Candidates. Once again..I blame the government.
The Treasurer is the guy most likely to go to jail so Tim has a vested interest in getting this sort of stuff right. Though I was already sure that what he just said was correct, after we stumbled around a bit the other day, I wanted either him or Paula to say it. Paula is doing filings right now and we might not hear from her for days. We heard from our Treasurer that there is no limit to how much we can donate.
I actually talked to the Texas Ethics board and they confirmed that Texas has no limit on donations to a Non-Judicial "statewide" candidate. This is also clearly indicated in that guide that I had linked earlier. I am pretty certain we are good to donate directly to Texas. They have some filing requirements which Tim alluded to that he said are no problem.
Also, since some people cant see Tim's Emails..there we go below mine.
I realize that there seem to be yet MORE people that have had some differing opinions on whether we can donate directly to a candidates campaign because we went through the LNCC for Ed Coleman's campaign but that was because they were willing to do the complex reporting requirement. See the excerpts from Wes Benedict and Aaron Starr below.
Wes on Monday, September 19th at 9:11 AM
"Perhaps Aaron Starr remembers, but I'm thinking the issue was that the LNC would have had to file some campaign finance reports with the state of Indiana, and you all decided that Aaron Starr and the LNCC would be willing to handle the burden of that extra campaign finance reporting. I don't think it was an issue of prohibitions on giving directly to Ed Coleman--rather reporting hassles, but again, that's off the top of my head and is about something from over 5 years ago."
Wes on Monday, September 19th at 9:19 AM Central time.
Robert says my recollection is 100% correct -- so now I'm 66.7% certain I remember correctly : ). Aaron Starr's confirmation would make it 100%.
Aaron Starr on Monday September 19th, 2016 at 10:33 AM Central time,
"That matches my recollection, but the rules for Texas may be different than they are (or were) in Indiana. '
That all said..I am gonna make a motion...again.

Goldstein said he was willing to co-sponsor something but thought the motion should specify a budget line, so that seemed to be wanting a different motion. Then the maker of the motion, Daniel Hayes, suggested perhaps we ditch both motions and donate $20k directly to the campaign.
