Yet Starchild you know that isn't how it works. Even if it were the
traditional committee - I see way too much willingness to just take what a
committee says and do it or passively let them - ergo the website.
Our message is our most precious resource and the LNC has the
responsibility for this - above all else. That is the one thing we do not
relinquish.
It seems there is often a power play to reduce or minimize our bold
bylaws-required message: the Statement of Principles -- and messaging can
be (a*m NOT saying here whatsoever* - just saying it can be- and has been
in the past) a code word for minimizing or blunting that upon which this
Party is founded, by which it shall be sustained, and through which liberty
shall prevail (Bylaws article 3.1)
If messaging direction is needed, above all things, THAT is what WE were
elected for, and NOT shunt this off to some committee. Of all things, we
handle this. This isn't micromanaging. It is good stewardship of the
reason for our existence that is not the equivalent of deciding what
wallpaper should be in HQ.
While in *theory* such a committee would then just submit *recommendations*
but we know precisely how it goes. The power has been transferred to the
committee because the institutional inertia and tendency to rubber stamp
comes into play. Absolutely not. This isn't a monumental task that
requires this. This is OUR job, and we can provide any needed guidance and
strategy. (and I would note that the APRC - again this is what I suspect
this is all about - and I am not terribly pleased since it can only be
talked about in subdued whispers and cloak and dagger secrecy - is composed
of LNC members who's job that is - with the ultimate arbiter on our
messaging - the Chair - having the ability to step in to set anything
aright if anything is going off the rails). And they judge on "image of
the party" (which is subjective) and adherence to platform and bylaws (and
I see this proposal as a way to substitute in the judgment of the already
created committee which was appointed by this body - for the judgment of
another). We do have final arbiter as it were, our platform and our
bylaws. And the APRC interprets them dynamically with the content
submitted. Another layer isn't needed. If some additional overall plan is
needed, the LNC can undertake this important task.
I note that this appears to me to be another way to push a direction that
failed on vote last time. Only this time to do it through committee, since
the LNC voted the strategy down directly when presented and I said then it
was an end-run around the APRC and I don't see it any differently now.
