Starchild,
I echo your sentiments below about LP.org articles that cover liberty-oriented activities not connected with the LP. Such articles dovetail well with the ASC motion offered by George Phillies that the LNC create an Affinity Group Support Committee. Your thoughts and the motion by George also align well with the LP big tent concept and provide a means of accelerating our outreach and enlightening the wider audience on LP principles and goals while enhancing party credibility.
Thoughts?

Subject: [Lnc-business] Save Scranton article on LP.org – Why cover non-Libertarian freedom fighters?
I want to commend whoever on staff is responsible for the article on LP.org about the group Save Scranton, which is fighting to defend the people of that town in Pennsylvania against the abuses of bloated government, along with whoever used the national LP Twitter account to tweet about them back in July, and Carla Howell for taking the time to talk with and give advice to someone from the group back in January.
The LP.org piece, published December 3, attracted my attention in part because it's the only story on the front page of our website that does not mention the Libertarian Party:
https://www.lp.org/st-fleur-using-ballot-measure-to-force-city-bankruptcy/
Wait, you may be saying – am I arguing that not mentioning the LP in this story is a good thing? Yes! Every other currently listed story on the front page of LP.org explicitly mentions our party. Of course it's good to cover and praise Libertarians who are fighting for freedom, but it's also good to cover others who are fighting for freedom, who do not necessarily have any connection to the Libertarian Party*.
The fact that doing so can in turn generate positive exposure for the LP among folks who might not otherwise be much aware of us...

...is a nice side effect, but it's not the main reason we should do it. We should do it because it shows that we are not just another self-promoting organization mainly concerned with tooting our own horn, but part of a larger movement for freedom: It sends the message that if you stand for freedom, we stand with you. Isn't that part of what being the Party of Principle is about?

*I don't know whether Gary St. Fleur or his Save Scranton group have any connections to the Libertarian Party, but if they do the article does not mention it. If they haven't been aware of our supported the LP in the past, this kind of recognition from us may make them more likely to do so in the future.
