[Lnc-business] Update - MOTION Re: Cuban Regime's Arrest of Libertarian Activists

Zach Foster of the Nevada LP just wrote to several of us with an update on the Cuban libertarians which I wanted to pass along, as well as a message he sent back on the 13th which I just received, that clarifies a couple points about the original press release. I had tried to reach him previously to get more information, but he was apparently having some communication issues and we hadn't been in contact until now.

However I'm impressed with the information Zach put together and just sent in the attached PDF document about the details of what happened, including some testimonials from other Cuban activists that he translated from the Spanish. As well, for those who haven't heard, he reports that the Indiana and New Mexico Libertarian Party affiliates have joined the Nevada, New Hampshire, and Oklahoma LPs in speaking out on this, as well as the Libertarian Party of Spain.

In support of the LNC joining the above-noted Libertarians in passing a motion, he notes:

"Some members of the LP have expressed concerns about Americans interfering in the affairs of other nations. Quite the contrary. No one is advocating trade sanctions on Cuba or sending the Marines to Havana. Instead the LP would be calling international attention to a human rights violation. There is very little we can physically do for Herrera and Velazquez—even Edward Snowden is still a refugee—but we can at least ensure that neither these libertarians nor Mises Cuba are abandoned."

I couldn't agree more, and hope we will do the right thing for them.

Love & Liberty,

They've attempted to become licensed by the Cuban government, but their overlords have not yet granted them permission to teach free market economics. The original press release mistakenly referred to Mises Cuba as an affiliate when it's actually an independent organization of liberty-minded folks. I'm in ongoing contact with Mises Cuba.

The problem is that these Cubans have become inspired by all of us American armchair libertarians who take for granted their ability to throw conventions and conferences and talk about liberty and how bad the state is. They've attended Mises Circles and libertarian meetings and carried that back to Cuba. Well, they've been arrested for it--for what we all do on a regular basis without a second thought. In Cuba, it's a matter of who's willing to go mess with State Security and ask questions. That's why we in LP Nevada are speaking out for their release. We're it.
