[Lnc-business] packets of bylaws and platform committee applicants are ready

I have been interviewing applicants including the question that I believed
and still believe should have been in the packet- what is the applicant's
understanding of libertarian philosophy.
I also asked two other essential questions that should be on future
applications: how long have you been in the Party and are you involved with
your state or county.
As I said last national convention, we have a history and a culture and
principles. Grokking those things takes sheer time and activity. It
cannot be done by a few months after joining with little to no other
involvement.
Recommending changes to our governing documents is serious business and I
urge the committee to be sure we are appointing qualified persons (and each
of us have other issues I'm sure are important).
In hindsight I'm grateful I missed the application deadline when I had only
7 months into the party and limited experience even though by that point I
was more active than many old-timers. It would have been a horrible
mistake to put such a green person in such a position. My views and
understanding are barely recognizable from those days- and that came
through sheer work and time with other Libertarians and the state party.
I will be preparing an extract of what I learned that will be of general
interest to other members of the LNC but will ask that be kept confidential
for the sole reason that I informed those speaking with me that I might
share with other LNC members but did not say it would be made public. In
the future I will include that. I can't waive the confidentiality of
applicants beyond what they agreed to. They do know however that these
decisions are made in open meeting so any information that is relevant to
decision can certainly be discussed openly.
I hope to have my extract done by Wed but I need to include the latest
packet and follow up on ones from the prior packet.
-Caryn Ann
PS: still in New Mexico after speaking along with Nick at their
convention. I'm really enjoying these convention trips and meeting so many
Libertarians. WA and AK next.
