First, I'd like to thank Senator Ebke for her sharp analysis. I agree with
her analysis on how social media actually treats series.

Second, let's look at the blowback. The blowback on this was a pure
distraction for several days. It was roughly 20 times the amount of
blowback we get on posts calling to abolish government schools.

Then ask this: what would be more valuable? Ending government schools,
leading more people to the educational free market, leading to better
quality education, making America more attractive to businesses, creating
more jobs, and creating an economic boom?

Or a law that allows people to join the Satanic Temple, which they already
can?

We're going to create controversy. That's part of having opinions outside
the brainwashed mainstream.

Imagine instead of that quote, a meme about ending government schools to
improve educational quality went negatively viral. It appeared on occupy
democrats, think progress, CNN, the New York Times, etc. People protested
it in the streets.

The result: millions of people would start thinking about what a world
without government schooling would look like. We'd be on air talking about
that better education. Millions more would discover Khan Academy and MIT's
opencourseware. Some of those people would leave government schools, find
something better, and thank us.

Those already homeschooling, unschooling, or attending private schools
might start supporting us more. Yes, we might turn current opponents into
future opponents (changing nothing). But we'd attract new allies, new
converts, and improve people's lives. In terms of the "Overton window",
we'd move the idea of ending government schools from unthinkable to radical.

The freetobelieve series, on the other hand, just creates a distraction. We
complain that the ruling parties use abortion as a distraction and wedge
issue, to prevent us from focusing on cutting government. But with
freetobelieve, we're doing that to ourselves. We are distracting our own
people from focusing on cutting government to advance liberty. That focus
could have been used on ending the FDA, the Fed, the FCC, DHS, government
schooling, foreign military bases, currency restrictions, marriage
restrictions.

Negative virality is fine. That's just using the opponents' force against
them. But let's do it with a focus on a real cut to government.

I recommend including big cuts to government on all posts, so that we can
usefully take advantage of both positive and negative virality.

In Liberty,

Arvin Vohra
Vice Chair
Libertarian National Committee
