[Lnc-business] Email Ballot 2017-10: Donation to the Mark Wicks campaign

He's losing votes because of it, and hopefully some are going to Wicks. I
am confident that more are going to Wicks than would have without the
money, assuming he had an opportunity to run those ads. People who are
angry at their former candidate are more likely to vote for the name that
came across their radar screen recently than the name on the ballot that
did not.
On the other hand, I'm sadly sure that he gained some votes because of it.
Politics being nasty is not new, but I think the particular form of
nastiness that has seemingly normal people saying "yea, we need more
reporters chokeslammed" is relatively new, or at least hasn't been around
for a while. (I know that everyone is saying he bodyslammed him, but
according to the Fox reporters who were present, it was more of a
chokeslam.)
Since moving to Central time, I haven't been able to listen to Smerconish,
but tonight I went home late enough that I was able to hear some of his
replay on my way home. He spoke about the race but did not mention Wicks,
which disappointed me. However, it seemed like every caller then mentioned
Wicks. One took him to task for not discussing Wicks, and Smerconish
apologized. Another that stood out was a former staffer of the pro
wrestler, who said she spent the day campaigning against him after that
incident. She said "I'm just trying to convince everyone I meet to vote
for Quist or Wicks."
I was also sad to learn that, in Montana, early voters cannot change their
vote by going to the polls the way they can in some states.
