[Lnc-business] Membership Report

Patrick,

We were anticipating a giant drop right around now because we had a giant jump right around now last year. I am pretty sure that some of this has been figured in to our current budget of almost $1.6 million.

The reality is we as a board need to do better. Gnashing our teeth doesn't get us renewed members. Asking them to renew gets us new members.

If we took donations over 2 million dollars for this year, this organization would be at a different level.

The building would be paid off freeing about $35,000/year in revenue and saving about $1000/month in interest. The Convention Oversight Committee wouldn't be fretting over making the convention affordable while still making it something people want to attend for something other than fighting over moving a comma. We would be that much closer to getting REAL Libertarian ballot access in every state.

I think 2 million bucks is the amount at which we start to get over the hump. That said, WE need to make that happen.

Our relentless philosophical debates are exhausting and, in my opinion, often tangential to our responsibilities as a committee. I find it a bit disconcerting there is seldom even a comment on our membership reports.

I would like to figure out what we can do better to 1) make members want to stay and 2) make new people want to join. I think if we spent more of our effort addressing these issues our time would be spent more productively.
