I generally agree with Caryn Ann. Voicing anti-government "conspiracy theories" about events, even if they seem unlikely, is not unlibertarian. While we should be cautious about the LP itself embracing such theories, I see no reason to distance ourselves from generally pro-freedom folks who promote them. To the extent they help people learn to be skeptical about government and the establishment, and not just accept the "official" story on high visibility events, they're serving a positive purpose. And sometimes the truth turns out to be just as dark as what might appear at first blush to be wild ravings (see e.g. Fast and Furious, COINTELPRO, MK Ultra, etc.). Of course we should always defend the right to politically dissenting free speech if there is any hint of an effort to shut it down.

But it has not escaped my notice that our 2008 VP nominee (and former member of this board) seems to be on a mission to make himself the next Alex Jones, and is engaging in Las Vegas "trutherism." Unfortunately, many of the stories I've seen about this escapade, and many of his media appearances, mention his LP connection prominently. We can't do anything about that, but it may be wise to subtly indicate, in our own messaging, that this sort of thing is not what we are about.
