Caryn Ann,
I plan to attend the state conventions within my region, as it's a
committment I told the state chairs I'd try to do. Even if I were doing
something that benefited one of the state affiliates, I've never seek to
be reimbursed for travel and/or lodging to attend a state convention
within my region. I wouldn't seek that from one of the state affiliates,
and certainly not from the national LP. (I'm helping with something for
LPMI, as they asked me, and I'll use my own money for travel, lodging,
and the convention package.)
When I read Wes Benedict's statement to the LNC, not only was I shocked
by the lack of transparency, in that none of this was known by fellow
LNC members, (At least I wasn't in the know.) but, I also recalled
something you'd written to the platform committee. When I read your
comment to the platform committee, I thought it odd. Now, it's more than
odd, it's disturbing.
When platform committee members were discussing when to hold an
in-person meeting, and the possibility of having a platform committee
meeting during a state convention, was still being discussed, you wrote
this:
"If we plan one at a convention, I’ll just plan on going to the
convention and do some national membership recruiting."
You wrote that on Jan 31st, 2018, and I had to go find that in a
platform committee communications. At the time, I just thought it was
an odd comment. Now, I'm wondering if you were thinking you'd be
reimbursed for travel and lodging to a state convention, where we'd also
have a platform committee meeting. The platform committee has
povertarians who have expressed concern about cost of an in-person
meeting. Some have suggested an electronic meeting to cut costs for the
committee members. So, I certainly hope you weren't thinking that you'd
be reimbursed for travel and lodging for the volunteer efforts that
we're doing for the platform committee.
