Imagine someone walked into a bank with a note stating, "Do not look up – give me all your money and no one gets hurt!" 

 

If I sat on a jury to decide the note presenter’s fate, I would find writer’s later claims of intent irrelevant. My conclusion will be based on determining the reasonable understanding of the note’s readers.  

 

A colleague with poor, counterproductive communication skills ought not be surprised when a majority of us seek to discontinue our association.
