[Lnc-business] Agenda in Phoenix

When there is an impossible situation, the one that makes the most sense
and protects rights is the one to go to. To say "but that isn't in the
Bylaws" misses the point. Of course it isn't. This is an equity situation.
==Caryn Ann, there's also no provision to 'put it to the delegates", as
there are no delegates. There *were* delegates, as in the past tense.
But, when the convention adjourned, the delegates are no more. ==
That is not true. The delegates remain the body to trigger appeals. This
is very analogous.
===But, the argument from those who insist we follow the bylaws is very
compelling, as they maintain that if we're the party of principal, that we
should follow our own rules. ===
I suggest said people read a fantastic short story called the Cold
Equations.
This is about equity.
===So, there's a number of LP members who are quite willing to forego
having a 'watchdog', in favor of the LP abiding by it's own chosen rules.
===
So a convention can rob people of it's rights and then use rules to keep on
doing so isn't right.
==I'm again reaching out to Region officers for input. (Just sent another
email) But, I suspect that those who hold strong opinions on this matter,
aren't going to change them. ===
Please pass on my phone number.

*In Liberty,*
*Caryn Ann Harlos*
Libertarian Party and Libertarian National Committee Secretary - Caryn.Ann.
Harlos at LP.org <Caryn.Ann.Harlos at LP.org> or Secretary at LP.org.
Chair, LP Historical Preservation Committee - LPedia at LP.org
A haiku to the Statement of Principles:
*We defend your rights*
*And oppose the use of force*
*Taxation is theft*
-------------- next part --------------
When there is an impossible situation, the one that makes the most
sense and protects rights is the one to go to. To say "but that isn't
in the Bylaws" misses the point. Of course it isn't. This is an equity
situation.
==Caryn Ann, there's also no provision to 'put it to the delegates", as
there are no delegates. There *were* delegates, as in the past tense.
But, when the convention adjourned, the delegates are no more. ==
That is not true. The delegates remain the body to trigger appeals.
This is very analogous.
===But, the argument from those who insist we follow the bylaws is very
compelling, as they maintain that if we're the party of principal, that
we should follow our own rules. ===
I suggest said people read a fantastic short story called the Cold
Equations.
This is about equity.
===So, there's a number of LP members who are quite willing to forego
having a 'watchdog', in favor of the LP abiding by it's own chosen
rules. ===
So a convention can rob people of it's rights and then use rules to
keep on doing so isn't right.
==I'm again reaching out to Region officers for input. (Just sent
another email) But, I suspect that those who hold strong opinions on
this matter, aren't going to change them. ===
Please pass on my phone number.

We may have the memory, videos, and pictures of being delegates, but we
don't have delegate authority after the convention has adjourned.
I personally don't have a dog in this fight. Sure, I'd love to see the
fabulous Region 3 LPO JC candidate who made the top seven get on the
JC, after all, I voted for her! I also co-sponsored the motion to
accept the top-seven candidates, despite none of them getting the votes
to be elected. As I'm 'pragmatic", and that seemed like the most
practical way to resolve this unfortunate situation.
Meanwhile through both private messages and Region 3 group discussion,
I'm hearing some very solid opinions in favor of strictly following the
national bylaws. (Yes, I also heard from some people like myself,
who'd rather approve the top-seven for JC, and not a clear majority.)
But, the argument from those who insist we follow the bylaws is very
compelling, as they maintain that if we're the party of principal, that
we should follow our own rules. Those who want us to follow the bylaws
are willing to have no JC, until which time that we have a national
convention, and can properly elect a JC. So, there's a number of LP
members who are quite willing to forego having a 'watchdog', in favor
of the LP abiding by it's own chosen rules.
I'm again reaching out to Region officers for input. (Just sent
another email) But, I suspect that those who hold strong opinions on
this matter, aren't going to change them.

Then let's put it in the hands of the delegate.
They have an absolute right to protection.
Having no JC cuts to the heart of the Party and cannot be accidentally
waived.
Put it to the delegates.

What matters is what actually happened at convention, and how the
national LP has bylaws and rules in place, which spells out the

A self-appointed JC will have no authority. I doubt *that's* what
the
delegates intended either, but that's what they'll get if the LNC
and
LPHQ staff accept the self-proclaimed JC.
