Hello,

My name is Archie Flower, I'm a candidate on the ballot for State Senate in
Vermont. I've written the attached letter for the entire LNC to read, as I
believe it is important that the party maintain its principles. Recently it
has come to light that some members have or are about to file formal
complaints against our secretary, Caryn Ann Harlos, and an at-large
representative, Joshua Smith. I write not in complaint, but in support of
them.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely in Liberty,

Archie Flower

UNDERSTANDING THIS HAS BEEN SNAIL MAILED AS WELL

13 August 2018

An open letter to all members of the Libertarian National Committee.

My name is Archie Flower, and I speak as a candidate for State Senate, on
the ballot in Vermont.

On August 15th of last year, Wes Benedict penned the following:

“The Libertarian Party condemns bigotry as irrational and repugnant.. there
is no room for racists and bigots in the

Libertarian Party. If there are white nationalists who — inappropriately —
are members of the Libertarian Party, I ask them to

submit their resignations today. We don’t want them to associate with the
Libertarian Party, and we don’t want their money..”

(Emphasis mine.)

Did we see any complaints then of “purges”? Or did we understand the
importance of integrity for our party? The importance

of principle over popularity? Indeed, no less a voice than Ron Paul calls
racism “.. simply an ugly form of collectivism, the

mindset that views humans strictly as members of groups rather than
individuals.” Collectivism holding in essence, that the

collective owns the individual, that there are no individual rights but
only the collective and its needs. Collectivism in all of its

forms is wholly, top to bottom, incongruous with individual rights, human
freedom, and the central principle and prism through

which we see all issues – the non-aggression principle.

All forms of collectivism vitiate the NAP. Racism is but one of a myriad
forms of this morally repugnant memetic disease.

Communism, socialism, identity politics, and so many other tribalistic
cults, all work against human freedom. Individual rights,

human rights, all stand upon the foundation of self ownership – but self
ownership can not be understood without a context of

properly framed property rights. These are the first principles, the axioms
upon which the NAP stands. If we fail to defend

property rights from outside ideologies that wish to plant their flags in
the heart of our party then our party, our work, our

sweat, all of our hopes and dreams that we have invested these decades,
will have come to naught. We can not be a party of

principle if we do not defend those principles, just as Wes Benedict did
above.

As a candidate on the ballot for State Senate in Vermont, I chose the
Libertarian Party because it is the party of principle.

Because its principle, its true north, its one prism, one lense, is the
principle which states:

“It is immoral to initiate force or fraud against a non-consenting person.”

The Democratic party has nothing like this. The GOP has nothing like this.
I do not seek power; I seek public service in the

very finest tradition as articulated in the Declaration of Independence:
“To secure these rights, governments are instituted

among men.” Am I to make party with or break bread with those who hold the
opposite view? Am I to join my labor via

freedom of association with those who would deny my very humanity?
Absolutely not!

I want the Libertarian National Committee to know how much I support Caryn
Ann Harlos. I want the Libertarian National

Committee to know how much I support Joshua Smith. They are both performing
extremely admirably, in representing the

truest feelings and deepest convictions of my voice, my mind, and my heart.
That they are there to make these principles

known, and to take the fight to those who would eviscerate our party. That
they, in steadfastness of integrity, do not speak for

popularity, but announce that they stand on principle. They should be
applauded by all libertarians, within the party as well as

without.

There are voices saying that Caryn Ann and Josh are creating division. This
is utter nonsense! They are not creating the

division, they are shining a beacon upon the division which is already
present. They’re not creating schisms or calling for

purges, they are revealing the ideological enemy within our gates. We must,
we must, we absolutely must abide by their

warning – for if we do not, we will soon have no party and no principles to
speak of. And at what cost for human liberty would

this be purchased given our nations present egregious circumstance?

Thank you for reading, and please again know that both Caryn Ann Harlos and
Joshua Smith do not speak only their voices, I

gladly join my voice with theirs. I loudly and wholeheartedly give them
both my deepest gratitude and support.

Sincerely in Liberty,

Archie Flower

   Dear Ms. Harlos,
I am writing you today to thank you for your recent commentary and
dedication to upholding our Statement of Principles as well as the
Libertarian value for laissez-faire capitalism. Thank you for using
your position in the Party to demonstrate leadership and being an
   outspoken advocate for our values.
What drew me to the party originally was the Libertarian belief in a
free market and private property/self-ownership while still holding
social values based upon individualism, freedom, and consent. It makes
me proud to see you and Josh standing up vocally for these most basic
and foundational of principles. As a member of the Libertarian Party I
appreciate your efforts and unwavering loyalty to the principles that
set this Party apart. I support you and Josh in your efforts, and I
hope that the rest of the LNC supports you as well. Below are a few
quotes that I particularly value on this subject.
   Yours in Liberty,
   Brandon Nelson

   "2.1 Property and Contract
As respect for property rights is fundamental to maintaining a free and
prosperous society, it follows that the freedom to contract to obtain,
retain, profit from, manage, or dispose of one’s property must also be
upheld. Libertarians would free property owners from government
restrictions on their rights to control and enjoy their property, as
long as their choices do not harm or infringe on the rights of others.
Eminent domain, civil asset forfeiture, governmental limits on profits,
governmental production mandates, and governmental controls on prices
of goods and services (including wages, rents, and interest) are
abridgements of such fundamental rights. For voluntary dealings among
private entities, parties should be free to choose with whom they trade
and set whatever trade terms are mutually agreeable." (Libertarian
   Party Platform, Section 2.1)

"If a man has the right to self-ownership, to the control of his life,
then in the real world he must also have the right to sustain his life
by grappling with and transforming resources; he must be able to own
the ground and the resources on which he stands and which he must use.
In short, to sustain his 'human right.'" - Murray Rothbard
“Each of us has a natural right, from God, to defend his person, his
liberty, and his property.”- Frederic Bastiat
"If history could teach us anything, it would be that private property
is inextricably linked with civilization." - Ludwig von Mises

   Caryn Ann,

I’ve been involved in the Libertarian Party since 2012 and I care a
great deal about our philosophy, our principles, and our success. I am
proud to support you and many others who seek to keep our Party on
course for a world set free in our lifetimes.

In particular, I thank you for your calls for transparency and for
defending free market capitalism as outlined in our original Statement
of Principles. Thank you for opposing all government interference with
private property and for making our positions clear.

I am grateful for your efforts; please keep it up. Your passion for
   liberty is an inspiration.

Thank you for making us better,

     Caryn,
Please forward this note to the entire LNC, if you could.
     To the Libertarian National Committee,
I am submitting this as a formal note of support of both Caryn Ann
Harlos and Joshua Smith in their roles on the LNC.
While I have been a philosophical libertarian for quite a few years,
I have refrained from officially joining the LP due to what I
considered a lack of effective leadership, as well as consistent
principled messaging. After seeing the hard work and principled
stands that Caryn Ann, Joshua, and Mises Caucus have put in, I
officially became a dues paying member of National in July, and plan
to become a dues paying member of my state LP within the next
     several days.
We need individuals in leadership who are willing to take stands on
principle when necessary, and in my view, both Caryn Ann and Joshua
have been doing nothing more than reaffirming the statement of
principles of our party. I will continue to support them when they
     do so.
Please let it be known that I will also not hesitate to file formal
complaints against members who I see advocating for the use of
physical force against peaceful people, as in my view this violates
the pledge that we all take when we join the party.

I am keeping these forwards to one thread - but if we are going to give

hear the voices of Party members who put their positions in writing to

   To the Libertarian National Committee,
I rejoined the LP and resumed paying dues at both the national and

worked his tail off to recruit REAL libertarians with huge audiences
   into the party.
He and Joshua Smith, and the irreplaceable Caryn Ann Harlos represent
the future of the LP as far as I'm concerned. They have embodied the
principles we stand for and deserve a gigantic pat on the back for
   their hard work.
I believe this party can enjoy issue-based unity with socialists on
particular causes and projects, but any hints of socialistic ideology
do not belong in our platform, and any LibSoc caucusers trying to
muscle out these excellent representatives by way of formal complaints
should be blamed for sowing discord, not the people trying to defend
the proper identity of this party.
   Sincerely,
   Benjamin J. Thompson

   Caryn,
I am writing this email as a thank you to for upholding and
defending the core principles of Libertarianism against those who would
dismantle the foundation of the Party. I will not support a Party that
makes concessions with a socialist agenda just to retain members, there
is NO room in the party of liberty for an authoritarian ideology.
Please continue your brave fight, stay strong, you have the support of
   many.
