While I would agree with Mr Phillips that taking cues from the Other
Parties may not be the best guiding rod, in the age of social media it
is becoming more and more common for members to reach out to us there
rather than via traditional email. I can see the merit in listing
people's official pages as another point of contact for members to reach
members of this body. However, I would be against listing personal pages
and profiles, and only be in favor of listing managed Professional pages
as such a point of contact. And at the same time, it may be
unprofessional of us to list pages for members that exist not primarily
in regards to their positions with this body, but rather to promote
their Candidacy for public office.
For Example, Ms Harlos runs a page specifically for the purpose of
outreach AS The LNC Secretary to reach out to members, and the page is
titled and managed as such. I would have no problem listing this page as
a point of contact.
However, the only official verified page I control on Facebook or
twitter is solely promoting my candidacy for public office, and not my
position with the LNC, I would be opposed to listing my own page for
that reason, as well as listing other pages i'm aware that other members
of the Body similarly manage.
The simple answer is that those of us without official pages simply
create new ones, separate from our campaign activities - But that would
be a requirement for me to support the idea. I largely support it now,
and honestly don't understand the objection to providing another point
of contact for our members to more easily reach out to the LNC, so long
as it is done in an official manner, not representing people's personal
profiles as official.
