Attached is a motion to carry out the motion adopted on the convention
floor directing us to create a Youth Engagement Committee. We may have
already executed that at our last meeting (I forget) but this makes two
major changes: (1) expanding its membership to seven members, instead of
the five originally envisioned, and (2) requiring that all its members,
aside from the LNC representative, be either under the age of 27 or a
current college student. It also corrects some grammar errors in the
original motion as to its purpose:
---------------------
Pursuant to a resolution adopted by the Libertarian National Convention,
there is established a Youth Engagement Committee to make
recommendations to the LNC on conducting outreach to younger voters,
consisting of seven (7) members appointed by the LNC:
At least one member shall be on the LNC;
The remaining six members shall be under the age of twenty-seven and/or
a current college student.
The committee shall elect from its members a chair.
---------------------
I've also attached it in DOC format.
I'd like us to consider the expansion of the committee's membership from
five to seven due to the enormous number of applicants we received, and
a desire to accommodate at least two more of the dozens and dozens of
young people eager to help steer our outreach to this important
demographic. I've gotten the blessing of the original sponsor (Mr. Long)
on this; he said he limited it to five because he honestly didn't think
there would be many applicants. He'll be very glad to have been proven
wrong on that.
The second change is to ensure that this committee serves a purpose of
being young people advising us (the LNC). Aside from the LNC liaison, I
see no reason for any of the other members to be non-youth.
I'd also appreciate time on the agenda for this motion's consideration.
For reference and comparison, the language adopted on the convention
floor was:
---------------------
Resolved, this convention seeks to recognize and promote young
libertarian activists;
Resolved, the convention instructs the Libertarian National Committee
(“LNC”) to create a Youth Engagement Committee (“the Committee”);
Resolved, the committee shall consist of five (5) members, of which;
At least one shall be on the LNC,
At least two shall be under the age of twenty-seven, and at least one
shall be a current college student;
Resolved, the LNC shall appoint the members of the committee;
Resolved, the committee shall elect from its members a chair;
Resolved, the committee shall make recommendations to the LNC on
conducting outreach to younger voters and education such on what the
party stands for; and
Resolved, this resolution shall take effect after the first meeting
of
the LNC.

Thank you!
