Close elections in California can really drag on. All the mail-in ballots,
and the extensions of the dates by which to mail in those ballots, and the
provisional ballots require extra processing time. Results are still not
final, and may not be final before our meeting this weekend.

Things look very promising for Jeff Hewitt's race for Riverside County
Supervisor. I hold my breath as I write that because the provisional
ballots (last things processed) can at times be very different from the
trends of the rest of the ballots. In 2016, Aaron Starr had a lead for a
city council election, and then at the very end the provisional ballots
turned a 600 vote lead into a 700 vote loss. So it ain't over until it's
over.

However...On election night, Jeff Hewitt's vote total was maybe 300-ish
behind the incumbent opponent. All but one of the posted batches since
then have moved the needle in his favor. He dropped to 500-ish behind,
then only 200 behind, then 100 ahead, then 300 ahead, then 600 ahead. As
of last night he had an 1108 vote lead. He's been getting 53% - 54% of
these late batches. Another update is due at 5:00 p.m. Pacific today.

There are thousands of votes left to be counted, and it's close enough to
warrant being nervous, but the trends make me hopeful. Come on, Jeff!!
