[Lnc-business] Results of voting for Membership Support Committee

I gave previous notice for that motion when I was under the impression that
no more than 6 could be elected. Now that the software has said 9 were
elected, it makes my motion rather pointless even if adopted, since there
are no subsequent rounds of voting to be completed.
Saturday was the deadline to provide previous notice, so I had to make a
decision without the benefit of knowing the OpaVote outcome.
However, now we're in a different territory. I've heard several people
indicate they're interested in a do-over for various reasons, rather than
just changing the method for any subsequent rounds. RONR puts a very
strict time limit on when one can make a motion to retake a vote by a
different method. It needs to be done immediately at the announcement of
the results and before the body takes up any other business. Well, that
timing gets messy and arguable when we're trying to do business by email,
against the warnings on RONR p. 1.
I'm trying to do justice to the timeliness requirement and preserve the
options available to the LNC. It's really best for us to take it up at the
meeting in case someone wants to offer an amendment of some sort. But does
the timing sensitivity requirement mean I'd better ask for cosponsors now
and do an email ballot before the meeting? If we take this up as the first
item on the agenda, have we lost our timeliness factor because in the
interim we adopted the agenda?
I am leaning towards the position that doing it as the first item of
business at the Alexandria meeting (with this agenda item request made now
in a timely manner) does justice to the timeliness requirement, but that's
arguable. However, if the chair thinks that it would be out of order for us
to wait until then, to preserve the body's options, I should ask now for
email ballot cosponsors to agree to retake the vote in Alexandria on BOTH
the Membership Support Committee and also on the Convention Voting Process
Committee.
Let's just not think about whether someone else could pipe up and ask for
cosponsors for another miscellaneous motion just to cut off my path to
acting in a timely manner...
Anyway, I need a ruling from the chair on my parliamentary inquiry about
whether I must ask for cosponsors now for an email ballot to meet the
timeliness requirement, or whether we can properly take it up as the first
item on the agenda in Alexandria.
For research purposes:
Points of order on conduct of election must be raised immediately following
the announcement of the result (RONR p. 250-251).
See "Time Limits on Efforts to Challenge, Retake, or Change a Vote" (RONR
p. 408-409)
See "Contesting the Announced Result of an Election" (RONR p. 444-445)
See "Retaking a Vote" (RONR p. 285)
Several points of order would have merit here, though the options to retake
the vote are not limited to situations that involve points of order.
