Below are most of my comments regarding version 2 of the March 9-10 LNC
minutes. One separate message will follow, probably later today, but on a
different thread.
p. 19, header “POLICY MANUAL AMENDMENT: ELECTRONIC EMAIL BALLOTS” has a
“19-“ inserted at the beginning of it. Perhaps that’s an unintentional
typo, since other headings don’t have numerical prefixes?
p. 27, on this page your numbering sequence for the main motions is off.
These were on 03/10, but they are numbered as 190309-x, which duplicates
the numbers of motions adopted the prior day. You have corrected this on
some other pages, but missed these two.
p. 27, did you intend to retain footnote 21 after repositioning the Redpath
motion from p. 26 to its new home on p. 27?
Appendix AA - p. 191, in several rows the table the votes do not line up
with the candidates, but are half-way between two candidates, making it
very hard to read
Appendix AA – p. 191, typo in “Secretary’s notes” section: “with five
notes” rather than “with five votes” – occurs in two places on that page,
repeated in table footer on other pages as well
Appendix AA – p. 191 & 193, Most rows have the vote centered in the cell.
However, a few rows at the end have the votes and the totals left-justified.
Appendix BB - p. 192, three rows with Alex Merced, Jennifer Moore, and
Kevin Moore, their names are all wrapped within the same cell and not
aligned with their votes.
Appendix BB – p. 194 & 196 & 198, Francisco Olvera and James Olivi are not
in alphabetical order
Appendix BB - p. 195, in “anomalies” in the table footer, uses “effected”
rather than “affected”, recurs in same table footer on p. 197
Appendix BB – p. 195 & 197, Most rows have the vote centered in the cell.
However, a few rows at the end have the votes and the totals left-justified
in a smaller font size.
Appendix BB – p. 199, The vote totals stop after Thomas Soules. The totals
are not listed for the following candidates: Kristopher Thomas, David
Valente, Kevin Warmhold, NOTA, Sam Goldstein (write-in)
ALL REMAINING COMMENTS BELOW PERTAIN TO APPENDIX F – SECRETARY’S REPORT
On the v1 draft of the minutes, my comment on Appendix F was, “The
secretary’s report included here seems to be version 1, which doesn’t yet
incorporate the changes we already saw in version 2, but the minutes
elsewhere indicate there is another version 3 in existence.” Now in v2 of
the minutes, the Appendix F footer says the secretary's report is v3, but
the body of the secretary's report still retains all the errors I noted in
version 1 of the report, though the appendix has addressed some of my
comments from version 2 of your report. It’s a mix of different versions.
For the results of email ballots 190214-1 and 190214-2, I recommend you add
a note to refer to the appendix of your report with the details of the roll
call votes. Otherwise they may not notice that those details are
available.
On the MSC OpaVote result tables, you have added a column for John Phillips
but have not included his votes there. The table footer incorrectly lists
him as a person who did not post his ballot to the email list, but he did
post it to our email list. The data just needs to be inserted and the
footer corrected.
On version 2 of the secretary’s report, I noted that the CVPC table in
Appendix B says I ranked Michael Nelson #20, but I actually ranked him as
#10. This has not yet been remedied.
On version 2 of the secretary’s report, I noted that the CVPC table in
Appendix B shows that Mr. Smith’s ballot ranked two candidates (Lazerow and
Robinson) both as #9. Robinson should be #8, and Lazerow should be #9.
This has not yet been remedied.
On version 2 of the secretary’s report, I noted that from RONR p. 427, in
preferential voting, “The tellers' report consists of a table listing all
candidates or propositions, with the number of ballots that were in each
pile after each successive distribution.” Data from tellers’ reports are
entered in the minutes. The appendices to the secretary’s report only show
the final listing of people declared elected, but not the vote allocations
for each round in the process.
On version 2 of the secretary’s report, I noted that because the appended
tables show the votes that Lark and Smith posted to the list but that did
not appear in OpaVote, if a future reader is attempting to duplicate the
OpaVote tally, they'll have trouble. You did put a note into the footer
that mentions that their votes were not posted to the software, but I think
it should state more clearly that the OpaVote results listed in the footer
did not factor in those two ballots that are shown in the table.
In both appendices A and B of the secretary’s report, most of the vote
formatting centers the vote in the table’s cell. Some rows, however, the
vote is a smaller font and is oriented in the top left where it’s much
harder to read without zooming way in. Consistent formatting would be
easier for the reader.
