Dear colleagues:
I hope all is well with you.I am writing to offer a couple of comments
regarding the motion currently before us.I hope you find these comments
to be helpful.
1) In a separate message, I shall vote “nay” on the motion regarding the
censure of Mr. Leder. My reasons are largely those which Mr.
Bishop-Henchman offered in his messages of July 16.
2)As far as I am aware, this motion was made available to us for the
first time at 7:53 p.m. EDT on July 10.Voting on the motion began at
1:26 p.m. EDT on July 11.That is, the length of time between the point
when the motion was first made available to the LNC (which was the first
time I learned of allegations regarding Mr. Leder) and the point when
voting began was less than 24 hours.
Allow me to request the following of those who make motions for which
the vote will be conducted by e-ballot.Unless your motion involves
matters that must be considered immediately, when you first submit a
motion for consideration by the LNC, please request that prospective
cosponsors wait at least 48 hours (72 hours would be better) before
cosponsoring the motion. The requested delay between the first
distribution of a proposed motion and a formal vote on that motion will
allow LNC members a little time to consider the motion carefully and
offer suggestions for its improvement.
As always, thanks for your work for liberty.I look forward to seeing you
in Austin.
Take care,
Jim
