Mr. Chairman, Distinguished Colleagues, Friends;
Let me start by saying that it has been *quite* an illuminating
experience this past year that I have served on the Libertarian National
Committee as its Region 8 Alternate, serving the Northeast- New York,
New Jersey, and the New England States. I have enjoyed the work we do,
the time we have spent doing it, and the nature in which we do it!
I'm incredibly thankful to be a part of this movement with you all. I
have met libertarians from every corner of this country and seen the
work that they do to fight for the liberty of others. I have traveled
to numerous meetings and conventions, even helped plan a convention or
two of my own in Massachusetts while serving as the state chairman. I
visited the Sarwark for Mayor campaign offices in Phoenix, Arizona. I
knocked doors for County Supervisor Jeff Hewitt's campaign, got to see
the genius of Boomer Shannon at work. I phone-banked for the Building
Fund at our very own LPHQ building. I have visited State Conventions in
Texas, California, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut,
and an UnConvention in Omaha. Everywhere I've gone, I have seen selfless
volunteers fighting in complete defiance of the stated odds, because win
or lose- principles matter.
Often unacknowledged and unrewarded, the Libertarian Party continues to
fight for your rights. In American culture, when we meet a military
service-member, people usually say "Thank you for your service," because
we believe that the military fights and defends our rights. As I have
grown into an anti-authority, non-obedient, and anti-war military
veteran, I've always suppressed the urge to discuss the underlying
issues packed into that phrase like a "woke" social justice warrior, and
I just respond "Thank YOU!" But I would like to share with you all who
feel the world pays little mind to this work and doesn't appreciate us,
among most of my military buddies I frequently get compliments out of
the blue and support from them about the work they see me doing in the
Liberty movement.
Think about that - active duty troops thanking a libertarian for their
service, thanking them for the work they do to fight for freedom, and
wishing they could do the same. I have said it before and I'll say it
again - Military Veterans are the key to liberty, they were willing to
die to defend it when they signed up, and we can tell them they don't
have to die for this, they can fight alongside us for peace, prosperity
and freedom. So on behalf of me and my military brethren who are out
their fighting and dying for this country because of the policy mistakes
of our government, I want to let all the libertarians out there know
they are counting on us, and most of them support us. This work is
important, it is recognized and it is deeply appreciated by many.
I have been honored time and time again that Libertarians have turned to
me for leadership, as Campaign Manager for Dan Fishman's Auditor
Campaign, as a delegate to the National Convention, as Chair of LPMass,
and as one of the most active alternates on the Libertarian National
Committee thanks to Mr. O'Donnell's Senate Campaign. I have learned a
lot about this business of fighting for liberty, and it has been an
honor to fight along side the likes of you. I will continue to fight
for liberty, but I must now shift the capacity in which I do so.
I have been offered paid work in liberty movement at a non-profit that
has requested that I relinquish all partisan affectations and titles. As
many hardworking libertarian volunteers well know, this is a dream come
true for most of us, and I would be remiss to turn this opportunity
down. My goal has been and will always remain fighting for increased
liberty for all, by any means necessary, and I must now make a decision
about how best to apply myself.
Region 8 Representative O'Donnell and I discussed this possibility and
planned contingencies for when this time arrived before I accepted an
internship in the Development Field which lead me away from New England.
Regardless of my future employer's request which was foreseeable, I
will now reside in Texas and though my roots in the Northeast run deep,
I will not be present to be involved in the organization of grassroots
activities and I will not be accessible in the way the region needs me
to be, and therefore Mr. O'Donnell and I decided when that time came it
would be necessary for me to be relieved of this post.
Therefore, effective immediately, I hereby resign from all partisan
roles, positions, and committees within the Libertarian Party. As a
Lifetime Member of the LP, I will remain a friend and a resource to the
party in my personal capacity whenever I can. Mr. O'Donnell is
preparing to send out notice of vacancy and the State Chairs in the
Region will begin the process of soliciting applications and voting on a
replacement in the coming weeks. Mr. O'Donnell and I expect no
interruptions in representation will occur in the interim. It will
probably just get a little quieter on the e-mail list for a while.
Thank you for all you do to fight for the liberty of others.
