Starchild was one of the folks who could not access the application of the
bylaw as it closed too early. He did notify me that day. I told him to
answer the questions in a separate email which is forwarded below. He
wanted the whole application forwarded on the public list. Please consider
this when voting today.

* Personal Note: I have what is commonly known as Asperger's Syndrome
(part of the autism spectrum). This can affect inter-personal
communication skills in both personal and electronic arenas. If anyone
found anything offensive or overly off-putting (or some other social faux
pas) in an actual email, please contact me privately and let me know. *

Hi Caryn Ann,

Here are my responses to the LP Bylaws Committee application questions
(which are refreshing by the way!)

*Name*
Starchild

*Email*
starchild at lp.org

*How long have you been a dues paying member of national?*
Since 1992, I believe.

*Are you involved with your state or local party? How so?*
Very much so. I am Outreach Director for the Libertarian Party of San
Francisco and a former county chair. I've run for public office five times
(once for State Assembly, twice for School Board, and twice for county
Supervisor).

*Have you ever served on a similar committee before? Do you have any
reports or finished products you can refer the LNC to? What are your
specific qualifications to serve on this particular committee?*
I have served on the national Platform Committee and Credentials Committee,
and on the California LP Bylaws and Platform Committees.

*Have you read the Statement of Principles? Do you agree with it?*
Yes, I've read it and strongly agree. It is inspirational.

*Will you commit to show up and actively participate in committee email
discussions and any in-person meetings?*
Yes.

*Which national conventions have you attended?*
All of them since 1992.

*Please give a brief (a few sentences) summary of your understanding of
Libertarian philosophy.*
I believe the heart and soul of libertarianism is the Non-Aggression
Principle, the idea that each person should be free to live as they choose
so long as it does not involve the initiation of force or fraud against
others. Individuals (not states) are sovereign, and have rights including
the right to own property, the rights to freedom of speech and expression,
the rights to self-defense and defense of others, the right to freedom of
religion, the right to freedom of movement excluding trespassing on private
property, the right to freedom of association,

*(optional) What is your position on committee transparency (should all
committee meetings and emails be open to Party members or should there be
limitations?*
I strongly support committee transparency, both in general, but for the
Bylaws Committee in particular, as essential to the bottom-up governance of
the Libertarian Party as a grassroots organization run by and accountable
to its members. Party members not serving on a committee should be able to
fully participate in all committee proceedings (both online and in-person
conversations) short of making motions or voting. All committee documents
and materials should be transparent to party members and accessible via the
committee page on the LP.org website, along with committee members' contact
information, their terms of appointment, advance notice of committee
meetings, each committee member's voting history, and information on the
committee.

*(optional) What are some of your most important accomplishments?*
Perhaps AI will be able to answer such questions in the future, but I have
no idea! My most concrete or visible accomplishments (e.g. having graduated
college with a degree in journalism, having been a sergeant in the U.S.
government's army, beating a prostitution charge, media attention, etc.)
are not necessarily the most important. The nature of my work, both as a
companion and as an activist, is such that its impact can be difficult to
determine. I'd like to think I have made a positive impact in people's
personal lives, and for the cause of freedom, but I'll probably never have
much real knowledge about the degree to which this is true.

*(optional) What kind of people annoy you the most, and how do you deal
with them?*
Few people annoy or anger me more than petty tyrants who take perverse
pleasure in enforcing authoritarian rules and regulations or simply
throwing their weight around and abusing people. I generally deal with them
by resistance and non-compliance to whatever extent I believe I can do so
without undue risk.
