Hello Mark Felt,
The situation presented to the LNC regarding the recent membership
application isn't the same situation as revoking a membership. This
situation, presented Dec 18th by our Executive Director, was of a *new*
applicant, and as such wasn't about revoking. It was about whether to
accept the donation of $25 dollars, which makes a person a 'sustaining
member'. I maintain that there's no obligation to accept the donation.
The bylaws don't say a donation *must* be accepted, and I think this
leaves an area of discretion.
Regarding my actions of forwarding the discussion to the public LNC
email: I didn't do so recklessly, and I gave a great deal of thought to
the situation before I forwarded the emails. I maintain that this
situation is one our LP members need to be aware of, and to discuss. I
also don't think that an individual who has years of public mention in
news articles, court trials, and other media, doesn't warrant
confidentiality in our discussion. As for 'stirring chaos and public
relations issues", this topic is of great concern to our LP members. I
think now, more than before, that this situation is one that needs to be
widely discussed, and not swept under the rug. If the LNC wishes to do
a censure, they can. As for your reference to a history of "childish
outbursts on the public list", I've no idea what you're referring to.
But, your commentary is amusing. So, with that jolly note on Christmas
Eve, I'll end my reply.
(forwarded to the public list for posterity per request ; )
Cheers, and Happy Holidays of your choosing,
Elizabeth Van Horn

Will we do the same for the no less than 3 convicted felons currently seeking our presidential Nomination?
>
> I would like to bring back a recollection from the 2016 LP Convention Presidential Debate, where Darryl Perry, when asked if felons should have their gun rights restored, reminded us all, that the purpose of corrections is to rehabilitate, and that if once someone has served their sentence, and paid their debt to society, they should have all rights and faith restored to them, for if we as libertarians don't believe in the possibility that individuals can be reformed, then we as libertarians work towards a hopeless future, destined for the peaceful to be ruled by the will of the warring.

> We cannot judge the merits of an individual member solely by their past, but only by how they grow and make penance for the harm they've caused. I myself am not innocent of having caused harm, as I'm sure most of our members, yourselves included are here working towards a peaceful and free future as a form of penance for the wrong of our past.
>
> The revocation of a membership based on past actions done while not a member of this body, without giving a chance to show penance or growth, sets a slippery precedent, not to mention a hypocritical one.
> Has the party openly disavowed Nathan Larson and Joe Exotic? Or what about those who are not convicted felons, but who's actions have displayed gross negligence and violated the NAP in other ways, such as Jeff Woods and Augustus Invictus.

> Lastly, I believe that it would be proper for the LNC to issue a formal censure of Ms Van Horn for her reckless actions in betraying the confidentiality of the individual in question by forwarding the confidential emails to the public list, and stirring chaos and creating public relations issues where there were none before. Transparency is commendable, but not always appropriate, especially when the professional business of an organization could be jeopardized by suck a reckless breach of confidentiality (which I'm sure is covered by whatever standard NDA the LNC holds it's members too, thus justifying the proposed censure, along with her history of childish outbursts on the public list).
