[Lnc-business] previous notice - the policy manual project

At the November LNC meeting, the LNC directed me and Ms. Harlos to bring
back to the LNC at this meeting a list of the stylistic policy manual
changes on which we can agree. Though the LNC did not direct Dr. Lark to
participate in the task, I indicated at the time that I wanted his review
also, and he was kind enough to provide feedback and catch a few more items.
Would you like some good news? There are more than two hundred proposed
changes that Ms. Harlos, Dr. Lark, and I can all support or at least
tolerate. In the attached Word document, the first section is a listing
of those with agreement to date. The numbers at the start of each line are
references to the PageNumber/LineNumber in the other attachment.
The other attachment is the copy of the policy manual to which Ms. Harlos
had added line numbers for easy reference, and she used insert/strikeout
formats to show her proposed changes. This is no longer the current policy
manual, as we have made other changes in the interim, but using this
version still allows us to all easily understand where the changes are
being proposed.
The second section in the attached Word document contains non-substantive
items that are either my proposed alternative to Ms. Harlos’ proposal, or
they are new items suggested by either myself or Dr. Lark. This is an
incredibly tedious project. With the holidays and other items on both of
our plates, Ms. Harlos is still reviewing this second category, and it may
be that before the meeting that some of these will move to the first
“agree” section. Since these are different/new from what you’ve seen
before, I wanted to go ahead and provide previous notice for them.
The third section are also new/alternate proposals from me, however they
are not just editorial or stylistic in nature. They are too substantive to
be hidden in a huge list of Oxford commas, capitalization, etc.
The items marked in the PDF but not listed in the Word document are the
things that do not have agreement.
This division will hopefully allow us to handle a whole lot of changes in a
single motion. I’d like to take up separate motions on the two items I
marked as substantive.
