The Libertarian Party has had an outreach booth at Freedom Fest
(the conference happening July 13-16 in Las Vegas) in past years, and I am
guessing there may be plans to do so again this year.

If so, I would like to encourage the Libertarian National Committee
to utilize volunteers to represent the Libertarian Party at this event. In
the past, paid staff have often been used for this purpose, which I believe
is wasteful and unnecessary when we have lots of great volunteers with
outreach experience who would be willing and able to represent us at much
less cost to the party.

Using national headquarters staff requires paying for round-trip
airfare from the D.C. area, as well as lodging and perhaps meals, and
presumably takes them away from their regular work at the office to at
least some extent, at a net cost to the party of many thousands of dollars
(Tim Hagan or Robert Kraus should be able to supply more precise details).

I'm offering again this year, as I have in the past, to travel to
Las Vegas on my own dime (in this case on the way back from our convention
in Florida), and pay for my own meals and lodging, to volunteer to help
staff a booth at the event if provided one of the attendance passes that
come with a paid booth. My guess is that there are other Libertarian
activists, particularly in the Las Vegas area, who would likewise be happy
to help staff a Freedom Fest booth for the party if they were not required
to independently buy a ticket to the event.

Hopefully such offers will not fall on deaf ears this year, and LNC
members will take this opportunity to ensure that LP members get more bang
for their dollars that are spent in order to give us a presence at Freedom
Fest.

P.S. – I request that my regional representative, Jeff Hewitt, or alternate
Tim Ferreira, forward this message to the public LNC list in the interests
of transparency, or if they do not, that one of the other LNC members step
up and do so.
