The articles I've seen on Yahoo's new DMARC authentication policy are focused on the impact on bigger email systems like MailChimp, which are designed for an individual to blast to a large group from the MailChimp servers but have the return address be their own personal email account. Though our list is not precisely the same thing, it's related. We send to the list, and the list relays it out to the other recipients from the LNC servers. The reply-to address is the list, which matches the server relaying the message out, but the sender's email is still part of the equation, and that may be enough to anger the spam filters. I'm not an expert on this subject, and I don't play one on TV.

https://blog.mailchimp.com/yahoo-changes-may-affect-your-deliverability/

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2141120/yahoo-email-antispoofing-policy-breaks-mailing-lists.html

So far, all the articles I've seen suggest that the email list admins set a policy that list users cannot use Yahoo accounts, lest the long-term result be that the list itself gets blacklisted in other servers. That may be what is happening here.

-Alicia

On Fri, Sep 12, 2014 at 3:28 PM, Joshua Katz <planning4liberty@gmail.com> wrote:

I'm happy to have started this spirited thread. Both Tim and Bill use Yahoo accounts, and they have both mentioned to me that they don't receive all their messages. In Tim's case, Yahoo routinely bounces messages sent by our list back to the list, and after so many bounces, the list automatically disables Tim and sends him a message to make him take action to get back onto the list.

The spam detection algorithms in some of these large providers is likely the cause. A quick search finds articles about changes that Yahoo made to it's spam detection earlier this year, so that it doesn't tend to like emails that have the sender identified as being from one domain (the one in your email address), but the message is coming from servers on another domain (the LNC list servers).

There may be a way for Yahoo users to do something similar to what Scott sent out (which is for Outlook users, though I think those settings don't come into play until after Yahoo has already decided to refuse to deliver the message), and give specific approval for their Yahoo account to deliver emails coming from this list, but I haven't searched for those directions yet. If anyone finds such an option, please share it so Bill and Tim can try it.

-Alicia

On Fri, Sep 12, 2014 at 2:27 PM, Scott L. <scott73@earthlink.net> wrote:
