It's rare for a Libertarian candidate to win an election by
beating a Democrat or Republican in a straight forward partisan
election.

We are not considering the following kinds of elections in the
attached:
* Nonpartisan elections
* Multiple-member elections ("vote for 3")
* Elections where Libertarian had fusion with another party
* Elections where multiple candidates appeared with the same party
label. (For example, in the California gubernatorial recall
election in 2003, multiple candidates appeared as Republicans or
Democrats.) The exception is Chad Ivery Perry in 2014, who
ultimately beat two Democrats.
* Elections where the Libertarian appeared with a non-Libertarian
label (independent, etc.)

We know of 11 Libertarian winners that have met the criteria in 43
years. 6 of the 11 were in Indiana. The 2 newest were in
Louisiana. If you know of others that have met the criteria in the
attached spreadsheet, please send them to me along with your
source of the election results.
