Here in Indianapolis, we've gotten myriad positive responses from our outreach within the black community, even garnering some radio interviews on some of the predominantly urban talk stations. I also think we need to do better at highlighting Libertarian support
for the less privileged and unpopular, as examples of how we really
care about people. See, e.g. the Oklahoma Libertarian Party's recent
activism at the state capitol, some of the Florida Libertarians who
rallied in support of the pastor arrested for feeding the homeless,
etc.
That ties in nicely with our needed effort to put a human face and emotion into libertarianism. The C4L/S4L/YAL set does a much better job than we do.
I like what I'm seeing with more humanitarian and charitable work by Libertarian groups. More of that would go a long way to improve our image in the media and general public. It's very simple to do.
The last piece of advice offered at the session was to simply take the first step and go into the communities we do not normally interact with and start the conversation. We stand with them on so many issues. Most people have never met a Libertarian. There are opportunities for us, but we have to take action or they'll just pass us by.
