Just to add a few more thoughts:

I thought Norm's points were well made. We put convention package sales into a completely different set of accounts on our books because the primary goal of those cash flows is to offset the expenses of the convention. We do the same with sales of t-shirts or hats. In 2008 when we contracted the convention management duties out to an
LLC, those package sales revenues went to the LLC, not to the Party. The entity that incurred the expenses received the offsetting revenue as well.

A convention package buyer is paying for meals, for the travel costs of the speakers at their meals, etc. They're buying goods and services.

If I sell my car to you for $5,000, you didn't give me a gift. We exchanged assets of equal worth.

Think about why the status is called "sustaining" membership. It is desired for those people to donate funds that the party can freely use for operations to sustain the party itself. The intent seems to be implied in the very name that was chosen for the status.

-Alicia

On Tue, Apr 28, 2015 at 10:04 PM, Alicia Mattson <agmattson@gmail.com> wrote:

We have an electronic mail ballot.

Votes are due to the LNC-Business list by May 8, 2015 at 11:59:59pm Pacific time.

Co-Sponsors: Mattson, Olsen, Wiener, Hagan
