Dear colleagues:
I hope all is well with you. I am writing to provide information
about various items in advance of the LNC meeting on Saturday. I hope
you find this information to be interesting and helpful.
1) In a separate message I shall send you my Region 5S and campus
organizing reports. In addition, I shall send you reports from the
Employment Policy and Compensation Committee and the Membership Level
Review Committee in my capacity as chair of those committees.
2) Please join me in congratulating Bill Redpath on his election as
chair of the Libertarian Party of Virginia. The LPVa held its 2014
state convention in Richmond on Feb. 8; I am pleased to note that we had
the highest turnout for a convention since 2004.
Carla Howell deserves special commendation for her help in making
the convention a success. She participated in the convention reception
on Friday evening (Feb. 7); many reception attendees indicated that they
enjoyed chatting with her. In addition, she conducted the "Who's
Driving" game at the convention. Her participation was at her own
expense; she volunteered her services to assist the LPVa.
3) At the instruction of the LPVa, I am advising you that the following
resolution was passed during the LPVa convention:
Resolved, that the Libertarian Party of Virginia encourages the
Libertarian Party to reinstate the Unified Membership Program (or a
similar program) with dues set at $40, of which $25 will be retained by
the Libertarian Party and $15 will be remitted to the state or District
party, where one exists, in equal monthly or quarterly payments.
Furthermore, we direct James Lark, in his capacity as Region 5 - South
representative, to advise the Libertarian National Committee of this
resolution and whoever serves as Chair of the Virginia delegation at the
Libertarian national convention to introduce a similar motion at that
convention.
4) Please join me in thanking Arvin Vohra, Eric Dixon, Carla Howell,
and Wes Benedict for their work to organize the LP outreach booth at the
seventh International Students For Liberty Conference in Washington on
Feb. 14-16. Also, please join me in thanking Paul Frankel, former LNC
vice chair Chuck Moulton, Mr. Vohra, Mr. Dixon, and Ms. Howell for
staffing the booth during the conference. (I apologize if I have
omitted the names of others who deserve recognition.)
I had the honor of giving an address at the conference on Feb. 14.
I am delighted to note that my address ("Challenges to Liberty") was
very well received by a standing room only audience.
As always, thanks for your work for liberty. I look forward to
seeing you on Saturday.
Take care,
Jim
