[Lnc-business] student memberships for $10?

We've got to stop fooling ourselves into believing that college kids are stupid, and can be separated from their hard earned money with gimmicks like food or tee shirts. If we make foolish offers that insult their intelligence, they will go join the Communists, Greens, or, more likely, the "Let's Party" party instead. If the world's smallest political quiz, reading Ann Rand, or Ron Paul caused them join our party for free, but we want their money, we will have to earn it by doing something that brings them more liberty NOW. Everybody is promising them great things later if they send money now. We can't out promise other parties, or expect to be out believed compared to them. But we can out perform other parties if we concentrate on promoting liberty NOW instead of waiting until we elect a majority of libertarians to high offices. College kids today won't send us money today if we promise a better world for their grandchildren's children.

In my experience, food attracts college students. I use food to get better student evaluations.

As a general rule, highschool and college students are much more inclined to contribute their labor asopposed to contributing money.

If you provide themwith free food, and perhaps some free alcohol if they are over 21, then you canget a pretty decent amount of volunteer work out of them.

All you need to do isto make the events FUN for them. The people who are best at making eventsfun for students are extroverted Libertarians under the age of 28 who stillremember how to party.

Joshua beat me to one ofmy points, that college students can already join the LP for FREE. Theybecome a member. They get added to our database, and we have theircontact info.

Many of us have at one time been poor college students. We knowwhat it was like. But I have to disagree with the notion that $25 mightas well be $5,000 to a college student. If they have a car, they probablybuy gas at $3-$4 a gallon. If they take girls out on dinner-and-a-moviedates, they spend more than $25 on that. Etc.

The responses from the college students said they didn't want to part with ANYmoney, not that they could part with $10 but not $25. One of the commentsin that file was from someone who has finished college, has a wife, and ispaying off student loans, but still wouldn't part with $25, and they wouldn'tbe eligible for the proposed student membership.

Lots of times the lack of money is a convenient excuse to give when they feel aneed to say something but don't really want to explain the real reason.

If you want do so somesort of student promotion, there is an easier way than creating a newmembership category and the necessary CRM changes that go with it. Justhave a promotional deal. If you become a party member and send us a copyof your current student ID card, we'll send you a coupon to get a $10 shirt, ora $10 backpack, or whatever. I wouldn't want to give promo items thatcost us more than the $10 to purchase and ship), so that we'd be losing moneyfor every student that joins, but if our costs are covered, wouldn't thataccomplish what you're looking to do?
