Mr. Chair:
It is not the responsibility of the National LP to provide free photography
services for LNC members use "for their next run for Federal, state, or
local office."
And other than yourself and the Vice-Chair, how many other LNC members
really need high-quality photos for **official** LNC business?
I understand that some of our members are involved with other libertarian
organizations, but again - National Libertarian Party donors should not be
paying for free photography services that LNC members will use for non-LNC
purposes.
Even if you use the Chair's discretionary funds to pay for the photography
services, it still means that $2000 of our donor's money was re-directed
from mortgage payments or staff salaries to pay for the photos. Changing
the budget item under which the money is spent doesn't make the effort and
cost to raise that money disappear.
As you all know, many of our members make their decision to renew their
membership, or to donate money, as a result of actions that many of us would
consider "insignificant." But, one person's insignificant trifle could be
the last straw for one of our members, and could cause them to drop their LP
membership.
Please consider the optics of spending $2000 of LP money at this time on
something that is perfectly doable by LNC members in their home states, on
their own dime.
The choices that I offered in my previous e-mail would not cost the LP
anything other than the staff time required to post the photos to the web
site. I hope that the Chair, and/or this body, will reconsider the wisdom
of this expenditure of money at this time.

Dear Dr. Lieberman,
I'm not going to make anyone sit for a photo they don't want. If you
decide to reconsider, the photographer will be there and setup to take
photos for everyone who will sit for him. I would like to have
everyone present take advantage of that opportunity.
I have been told by our Political Director that I need more and better
photos to go out with media releases. I've also been told by
convention planners for states I've been invited to speak to that they
would like more and better photos for their promotional materials.
For these reasons, I was planning to retain Mr. Uilkie.
In consultation with Mr. Benedict, he suggested that I try to
negotiate a reduced rate to get more and better photographs for the
rest of the LNC. I did, and the final cost will be less than $100 per
person. The end result is that our committee will have better looking
photographs on our soon-to-be redesigned website with out soon-to-be
redesigned logo. The committee will have high-quality photos that
they can use for their next run for Federal, state, or local office.
The committee will have high-quality photos that they can send to
organizers of events and conventions that they go out to speak to.
I am as careful with donor funds as I am with my own. I have decided
that it makes sense to spend less than $100 per LNC member who spends
thousands of dollars of their own money multiple times per year to
travel to attend to the party's business to improve the image our
party shows to the public.
I'm happy if members of the LNC wish to donate to the party to defray
some of that cost; board fundraising is below target so far for the
year anyway. I'm happy if some of our sustaining members wish to
donate to the party to defray some of that cost; we represent them.
The LNC is well within its prerogative to override my decision on this
issue (as on many other things), but if you do so I will still use my
Chair's discretionary funds to pay for this because I think it's good
for the LNC and the Libertarian Party.
I hope you will reconsider,
Nick
