My schedule should be clear Nov 14-15, or Dec 5 or Dec 11 weekends.
Also, I'd like to 2nd Norm's call to include Denver in a coming meeting .
either 4th quarter 2015, or 1st quarter 2016. In addition to giving the
western states a fair turn on travel time, I've got friends in the Denver
area who I'd like to visit .

Subject: Re: [Lnc-business] Fall/Winter meeting dates and location
Dear colleagues:
I hope all is well with you. Ms. Kirkland's message below suggests that
I may not have explained well the second comment offered in my previous
message. Allow me to clarify the point I sought to make.
I have been aware since speaking to Ms. Kirkland several days ago that
the Rosen Centre is offering a room rate of $95.00 per night for the Nov.
14-15 meeting date. Mr. Sarwark's message indicated that after the Nov.
28-29 weekend, the hotel will be in holiday season; as a result, room rates
will increase. Thus, I was surprised to observe that the room rate quoted
for Nov. 14-15 (before the holiday season begins) is higher than the rate
for Dec. 12-13 (after the holiday season begins).
The fact that the website rate quoted for Nov. 14-15 is higher than that
for Dec. 12-13 doesn't necessarily imply anything about the rates we shall
be offered for a Dec. 12-13 meeting vis-a-vis the aforementioned $95.00
rate. However, it suggests to me that before considering a motion in this
matter, we should inquire whether the hotel will make us a similar offer
($95.00 or thereabouts) for a December meeting.
Unless the Rosen Centre doesn't have the necessary guest rooms or
meeting space for Dec. 12-13, I would be very surprised if the hotel is
unwilling to make us a similar offer for that date, especially given that we
are holding our national convention there next year. I don't believe the
hotel will consider it impertinent of us to request formally a $95.00 rate
for a Dec. 12-13 meeting.
Allow me to emphasize that I don't want to put anyone to great trouble
and/or expense so that I can address libertarian student conferences in
Europe. If the LNC chooses the Nov. 14-15 meeting date after careful
consideration of the situation, so be it. However, before we make the
choice, let us ensure that we have investigated the matter fully.
As always, thanks for your work for liberty. Again, I hope my comments
are helpful to you.
Take care,
Jim

We had the budget meeting in mid November in 2012, so it's not unheard of to
have it in November.
The rate they can give us for the weekend of November 14/15 is 95 dollars
per night.

Dear colleagues:
I hope all is well with you. I greatly appreciate Mr. Sarwark
soliciting feedback concerning this matter before submitting a motion for
our consideration. Allow me to share with you some comments about this
matter; I hope you find them helpful.
1) The weekend of Nov. 14-15 is very bad for me, as I have been invited to
deliver an address to the European Students For Liberty conference in
Copenhagen, Denmark on Nov. 14. In addition, since we shall consider the
2016 budget during this meeting, I believe it would be better for us to hold
the meeting on Dec. 12-13 (or if necessary Dec. 5-6), as we would have more
information at our disposal in preparing the budget.
As a related point, the Executive Committee is responsible for preparing
the draft budget for consideration in advance of the LNC meeting. Holding
our fall meeting on Nov. 14-15 would likely require the EC to prepare the
draft budget in later October. At least two EC members (Bill Redpath and I)
will be very busy in October, as elections for the Virginia General Assembly
take place in November. (Mr. Redpath and I serve as chair and vice chair,
respectively, of the Libertarian Party of Virginia.)
2) A few minutes ago I visited the Rosen Centre website to check on room
rates for Nov. 13-15 and for Dec. 11-13. I was surprised to observe that
the rate for a "deluxe double room" was $194.00 for both Nov. 13 and Nov.
14, whereas the rate for the same room on Dec. 11 and Dec. 12 was $173.00.
While the fact that rates on the website for a Nov. 14-15 meeting are
higher than rates for a Dec. 12-13 meeting doesn't imply the Rosen Centre
will give us the same room rates for the two meeting dates, it suggests to
me that we should make additional inquiries concerning rates for a Dec.
12-13 meeting (and a Dec. 5-6 meeting) before any motion is considered.
Frankly, I would be very surprised if the Rosen Centre is unwilling to give
us the same rate for a Dec. 12-13 meeting as long as rooms and meeting space
are available.
3) I believe there is an additional benefit to holding the LNC meeting on
Dec. 12-13 that we should consider. Specifically, the anniversary of the
founding of the LP takes place on Dec. 11. Perhaps we could hold a
Libertarian Party celebration/fundraiser on the evening of Friday, Dec. 11
at the hotel. Indeed, assuming that there are no FEC (or State of Florida)
problems, we may be able to conduct a joint LP/LP Florida/LP local Orlando
organization celebration that evening. In any event, we may be able to
organize some type of celebration at the hotel that provides an additional
incentive for the hotel to give us a favorable rate for a Dec. 12-13
meeting.
As always, thanks for your work for liberty; as always, thanks for
considering my comments. I look forward to seeing you next month.
Take care,
Jim

All,
Vicki Kirkland has been in contact with the Rosen Centre, the site of
our May 2016 convention, about the possibility of having an LNC
meeting there in advance of the convention. This would allow the many
members of the committee (myself included) who have not been to the
venue to see it prior to this coming May.
In her discussions with the hotel, they have offered a $95/night room
rate for the weekend of November 14-15, but indicated that the only
weekends they could make that rate available would be that one and the
weekend immediately following Thanksgiving (November 28-29). After
that point, the hotel is in holiday season and the rates go up.
Before we have a mail ballot on the issue, I'd like to put it out to
the list for a discussion of the pros and cons of the proposed date
and venue versus any alternatives.
