Dear LNC:
Robert Kraus will be managing the on-site convention registration
process again, as he has for the past several conventions.
We are expecting much higher turnout than in recent years, so getting
people processed in a timely manner is going to be a challenge. An
example of what can make things particularly challenging is how some
people have purchased multiple registration packages without providing
all of the names those packages are for (yes we're constantly working to
remedy that).
I have encouraged Robert to secure as many workers, volunteers,
printers, and whatever else he might need, to boost our registration
process capacity so that things go well.
Bob Johnston and Nick Dunbar are Robert's chief assistants.
I have encouraged Robert to open the registration desk extra early, and
to keep it open extra late, beyond what our published schedules show.
Long lines make for irritated customers, especially if it's a morning of
a business session and people are eager to vote on something important.
If at any time you notice a long, slow-moving line at registration
(something that looks like it requires more than a 15 minute wait),
please consider helping out if you meet certain qualifications.
The kind of volunteer that would be especially helpful is one that is
calm, mild-mannered, patient yet efficient, pays careful attention to
detail, is willing to withhold unnecessary advice and commentary till
later, and is willing to put in 2 hours of assistance (so we get a
reasonable return on the time spent training for the tasks).
Thanks for your patience, help, and consideration.
If registration goes reasonably well, be sure to thank Robert Kraus for
a job well done.
