All -
After working on this for quite some time, Andy Burns and I were able to
merge the old LP.org content into the existing LP.org in a way that does
not clutter the site, and preserves the majority of the old links.
We had originally sought to place everything on an archive site. During
the first move of data to the archive site, it became painfully obvious
that maintaining two sites was going to create serious logistical problems
both immediately and in the future. In short, it made much more sense to
house the data in one place, and in the same format.
All dates and authors were preserved, though some content belonging to
accounts of former staff will be merged into the generic "staff" account.
The preservation of dates was critically important, as I am hoping that at
some point we'll be able to have a real way to archive information off to
an archive site, if that becomes necessary.
If you'd like to test-drive this, go to:
http://old.lp.org/news/press-releases/libertarian-candidate-barr-blasts-mccain/
and compare it with:
http://www.lp.org/news/press-releases/libertarian-candidate-barr-blasts-mccain/
which you will notice automatically redirects you to:
https://www.lp.org/news-press-releases-libertarian-candidate-barr-blasts-mccain/
which is the format supported by our new platform.
